Holy bleepies. Blu-ray sets are $200, blu-ray PC drives are $150, and |
|
half of the good James Bond movies are out in blu-ray definition. :9
I am abstaining because standard def is a-ok by me...
eventually, especially as archiving my data to blu-ray would be more reliable than having a couple extra hard disks...

1. Smart to price the blu-ray units at a price to sell. |

2. Especially with more titles coming out... |
|
Especially the Bond movies, though for those I'll just get the 7 flicks I like and keep the standard def discs for the others...
Definitely 2009 for me, but pricing them right helps.
Oh, ignore articles saying Blu-ray is dead. Anyone knows that a high def download is not truly high def until it reaches the same bit rate as blu-ray -- and such downloads would be HUGE.

Is investing in a Blue-Ray player worth it if one has only a regular, non-HD TV set? I.e, would I see a difference on my five year old, 36" standard Sony TV?

Even I, who can see the DVD artifacting from standard def discs on a old glass style TV would not recommend it.
Even on a 720P HD set I'd be hesitant, if you wanted optimal appearance, as blu-ray is full 1080p.

I see. I'm a bit of an entertainment system Luddite-- TV (as above), and a five year old $20 dvd player from a pawn shop has been good enough for me.
But I imagine that sooner or later I'll have to make the leap if/when I ever get a HD TV-- which isn't friggin' likely at today's prices though. But maybe one day...
