god dammit, quit calling so much!

ugh, i have to rant. i'm not much of a talking over the phone fan, but i usually answer when my friends call if i can.. however over the past few weeks i've been extremely busy with school work, testing, and college applications.

i have a friend who calls me every single day.. numerous times. i've had my phone show 6 missed called from them in one day and several messages of "just calling to say hi". sometimes i'll answer and chat for a few minutes, though they seem to want to stay on the phone for an eternity.. still, they'll call back later in the day even though we already talked.

i was just sitting here listening to a 30 minutes world history lecture and responding to my essay questions and they called 4 times just within that 30 - 45 minutes. i just talked to 'em yesterday!

i have tried to explain that i'm extremely busy right now and don't have gobs of time to spend on the phone, and it isn't like i go weeks without answering their phone calls.. but it just isn't sinking in apparently. when they call me numerous times like this it gets me frustrated and angry and then i don't want to call them back. if i don't answer the phone the first time, i'm probably busy.. if i don't answer the second time i'm definitely busy... beyond that it just gets more and more annoying.

2. Up until early September, I had a person do that to me.

They called, and emailed me too, about 20 times a day on both counts, with whatever stupid shit they were spending all their carefree time looking at, none of it was remotely interesting to me. My aunt would be in a position where she needed my help and they would steadily be talking on the phone without giving me a chance to get a word in edgewise. Then they would act all huffy if I didn't drop everything I was doing to listen to them whine about a hangnail. They were rude on so many levels other than that too. They did things like calling me "white trash" and continually calling women bitches and lots of other things they said about my family that still disturb me to this day.

I finally had to tell that "friend" to take a hike on the day they called me yelling at me over some dumb ass shit they wanted me to help them do on Myspace like it was the end of the world or something. After they called me a "stupid bitch," the feeling of relief when I cussed them out was so overwhelming that it helped me realize just how much that person had annoyed me and messed with my self esteem.

I'm free of them now. It feels much much better. If they were still calling me like back then, I would block their ass. I found out after I stopped talking to the guy that he was really talking incredibly bad about me behind my back and actually was part of the attacks on me on myspace, coordinating the attacks, even. He was no friend to me. I'm glad to be rid of him now.

I'm not sure about any other circumstances you have with your phone happy friend, but anyone worth their salt would honor a polite request that they quit calling so much for a couple of days until you get caught up on your work.

3. Pick up the phone

Say "Hi, I'm really busy right now. Can I call you at 8:00?"

Then call them at 8:00, chat for 15 minutes, and come up with a reason to get off the phone. :shrug:

mostly because when i tell them i'm busy, it doesn't seem to matter to them.. by god, i'm supposed to talk to them on demand when they want! i've had 'em call me at midnight before, just to talk.

even if you're in class or something, just pick up the phone and yell, "I didn't pick up the first time for a reason!" and hang up.
