especially since we have a separation of church and state in this country, I also know that AA in general doesn't care much for court ordered persons showing up at meetings because it is an ANONYMOUS program and when you force people to go to an anonymous program (where anonymity is part of the way it works) it sort of takes away from the whole danged thing. :P

I seriously agree, there are ways to introduce people who are court ordered for support groups to all kinds of support groups without court ordering them to AA meetings. :D

19. AA does not recruit anyone - no one forces anyone to join -

even court ordered participants have a choice after their attendance period is over.
I have found some AA meetings to be pretty poorly run, some very controling. The solution is to find another meeting that suits you better.

What's all the bullshit about? If you don't like it, stay home.

Nobody who gets court-ordered to go to meetings actually has to show up at them. They can have anybody initial their littlle slip -- who's going to check up on them? (They may or may not be able to figure that out.)

The courts nudge people in the door, and for some people that turns out to be a good thing, if you know what I mean.

You still have the freedom to do or don't do whatever you want once you walk in the door. That's the beauty of it. You must decide for yourself, and you can decide that any ol' time you want. If you're really bad off, if you wait too long it might kill ya, but that's your choice too.
