** help please ** I have a baking question...
I put a cake in the oven, preheated at 350 about 45 minutes ago. It is supposed to bake for 1.5 hours.

Thing is, I just noticed that it was set to BROIL not BAKE at 350. The top of the cake is dark, but not burned. I covered it with foil and changed it to bake.

Did I kill it?

Of course, it is supposed to be for a work thing tomorrow..... :banghead:

1. You should be fine, especially if it gets icing.
Broiling at 350 means that the broiling elements weren't on all the time, so that's why the top isn't burnt.

If you'd broiled at 600, you'd have a problem.

All the broiling at 350 did is to bring heat down from above, instead of up from the bottom, but it's the same amount of heat as if it were on bake.

6. Since the top will turn out to be the bottom, if worst comes to worst, you could
always slice it off if it gets too browned or dried out. That would make it sit flatter on the serving plate, too.
