1. Yup...
Kick and Invitation.

I'd like to be the first to invite you to our lovely state. It might have crappy weather, but we're a liberal nirvana, we're close to NYC (so if you work in NY now, you can totally commute), we have things to do, great places to live, great restaurants and bars and museums and street life, we're building a state-of-the-art public transit system, jobs (we've been recession-proof) and we just can't get people to want to live here because they heard what a shithole it was in the 1990s.

Connecticut would be proud to have you.

5. Please show me the state-of-the art transit system!
this being the primary issue that caused me to flee the Nutmeg State, specifically progressive, intellectual New Haven, in the mid-'90s. Back in the day, we used to call the operating company "Connecticut Tran-shit". ("What do you mean, the last bus leaves at 6:10?" :grr: )

I'm straight, but I can easily see how gay couples moving in could help revitalize CT's cities, most of which are a bit frayed around the edges once you leave downtown, not to mention the many quaint small towns that dot the state's map, many of which, especially away from NYC weekend paradise Litchfield County, have fallen on hard times as well.

6. It's a multi-phase project...
Currently active:

*Star-shuttle free bus loop through downtown Hartford.

*Increased # of express-buses between cities: Hartford-New Britain, Hartford-Waterbury, Waterbury-New Haven, etc.

*Easy Street. A point-to-point van-pooling shuttle subsidized by CDOT for as little as $25/week.

Under Construction:

*Rail spur for light rail connecting New Haven to Springfield, MA through Hartford with local stops.

*Increased Metro-North and Shoreline East stops and increases in total daily trains as stations increase.

Planned improvements:

*Extended bus-line hours to farther extensions of the bus system. (Because I agree, it's a pain that the last bus to my house leaves Hartford-Main St. at 6:15PM)

*Free bus loop within New Haven center.

*Central CT busway system (It's going to be like a subway, except surface-level on dedicated non-public roadways with buses running on LNG. I'm skeptical, but that's the plan.) running as far out as Simsbury, New Britain, Bradley Intl. and Rocky Hill.

*Implementation of point-to-point bus lines connecting end-of-line stops between systems. (i.e. Tunxis CC to New Britain through Plainville, Southington and Bristol)

Thanks for asking though, it's the main complaint here...people couldn't use public transit if they wanted to. Even locals don't know that it's being worked on. They're not doing it fast enough for me but they are finally listening. The biggest issue we are having currently is NIMBY. Everybody wants transit but nobody wants tracks near their home.

2. That is so cool! How come they can pull it off and our state can't?

:(

Oh well, Prop 8 won't stand.

7. Seems like we have a clump of gay-friendly states developing...
...in the North-East.

It has to start somewhere, I guess. So far the citizens of MA doen't seem to mind having gay marriage in their state. I guess society has not fallen apart there.

8. Now Rachel Maddow can move to Fairfield County
with her wife Susan. That'll make her commute a hell of a lot easier.

She can carpool with David Letterman!
