Woman says attacker hit her with a rock because she's gay

ALOHA, Ore. -- A woman is recovering after getting pounded in the face with a rock by a man who she said was angry when he learned she was gay.


The 20-year-old woman told police she was walking along SW 174th Avenue in Aloha around 6 p.m., Wednesday when a man asked her for a cigarette. She said she told the man she didn’t smoke and then he asked her if she was gay, and she said yes.


“The suspect became angry and told the woman that was disgusting and she was going to hell," said Sgt. David Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Then, the man pushed the woman to the ground and hit her in the face.
