He was actually a selfish SOB, and yes, his mother was a bitch.

I wasn't married as long as you, and have no kids, but understand the rejection , and hurt.
I will not say anything about the age difference, as my father was 21 years older than my mom, but, the behavior is that of a egomaniac proving his sperm is still viable.

Proving to the world that he can get a younger woman, blah, blah, blah.
Some have said, take him to the cleaners. I respect that you just want it over, but make sure you are taken care of.
