Post your current word crush
I love the word "ctenophore", which is an invertebrate ocean animal resembling a jellyfish...sometimes known as "comb jellies".

Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 11:58 PM by MilesColtrane
...an old episode of "Entourage".

One of the words is not allowed on DU. The other is "muscle".

Perhaps it is not the epithet itself that is funny, merely Jeremy Piven's delivery, followed by Ari's wife's reaction to the foulness, then his reaction to her.

57. It's been reported that John McCain has directed it towards his wife in a comment about her makeup.
Yeah, that one.

I'm fascinated by the Ari Gold character because his self worth is so tied up in the outcome of his latest deal. This leads him to be completely over the top in his pursuit of "winning", and to have almost no control over his emotions.

Despite this, you do sense a fierce sense of loyalty in Ari, toward his wife and family, his clients, and even his assistant Lloyd. The problem with Gold is that he has so little self awareness. He routinely drops the foulest insults and analogies on those he would kill for, and when they call him on it, he merely shrugs it off as if to say, "you wouldn't ask a tiger to stop roaring".

He's striving to be the alpha neanderthal. He just happens to wield a Bluetooth instead of a spear.

60. tetrakis.
Technically, that is part of a systematic nomenclature system, rather than a word, but who cares?

It means there is a tetradentate ligand with something from the normal IUPAC nomenclature in it's name attached to your transition metal.

Pronounced "tet rah kiss"

And I will also guess that my explanation was about as meaningful as the original word to most people.
