What's the point of living in the "greatest country on earth"?
Talking to my Dad tonight my cell phone disconnected...my minutes ran out...
My 31 year old car's gas tank is hovering above Empty...
I have 49 dollars in my bank account, in ten days my car insurance and credit union loan bills are due...
I have been unemployed over a year, submitted over a hundred resumes and applications...
My unemployment and emergency extension ran out months ago...
I've been on food stamps since July...
I've sold most of my valuables but I have a few left...the stuff I'd really like to keep...but they are most definitely expendable, even for a fraction of what they are worth to me...
No money for rent next month...
I'm single and alone and I really hate this situation.
My retirement funds lost 30 percent last quarter but I see no recourse but to cash them out and use that money to survive.
And people criticized Obama because his preacher said "God damn America?"
I'm sorry for being so bitter but for me life sucks right now. Wearing a happy face does nothing for me.

1. No need for God to do it... Bush and Co. spent the last eight years damning all of us, as well as
a good portion of the rest of the world.

I'm anticipating moving out but I don't know what to do with my stuff...maybe I just strike people as being creepy...I don't know.

4. thank you
I guess I've denied it but yes it is rough. I just want to be secure knowing I have a place to live for the next few months. At least that's what I've been telling myself. I always thought I had a lot to offer, but maybe I'm destined to fall under the cracks

6. I'm sure you still have a lot to offer
unfortunately, with the current crisis, there are few takers. Except for the bailout-ees. :eyes:

And far too many people falling through the cracks. :(

5. It's a lot like having the worst house in the best neighborhood
I've been told that's a good thing. :eyes:

7. not sure what you mean but that's OK
Neatness and cleanliness have always been strong points of mine, I always take good care of the place I live, my neighbors have always liked me and until a little over a year ago I made good wages and was a good contributing member of society.

12. I getcha
don't worry I feel better now, sometimes I succumb to the urge to feel sorry for myself and I can get a little self defensive. But I'm honest about it, at least...We're friends!

8. When a country has the rate of socio-economic inequality that the US does,...
I take the "greatest country on earth" business with a grain of salt.

9.
What a lot of awful things. You have a lot to be bitter about so I don't think you need to wear a fake happy face for anyone. Something you posted in a reply made me think that you feel bad about yourself because of this and I don't know you personally but I seriously doubt that this is in any way your fault. Your value as a person doesn't have anything to do with your income and I hope you don't lose sight of that. I hate that they (the right wing greed mongers) have not only made it impossible for a lot of people to survive but they've also managed to marginalize those same people and try to behave as if it's lack of character or something that is the problem instead of greed and the wealthy preying on the masses.

I wish there was magic to make it better and a virtual online hug may not mean much but it is sincerely offered

11. thank you
I've been on the verge of feeling really bitter about the whole thing. I really can't keep on caring about other people if I can't feel good about myself. I've always tried my hardest to help others and now I am finding myself sinking deeper and deeper into a place I continue to fight to my utmost to avoid (ie: despair). Perhaps I am feeling the repercussions of a subconcious existential angst, that I am truly alone (I hope not). Even though the temptation is great to just get rid of everything I own and just get in my car and drive until I can go no further I refuse to. I will never give up hope, I know times are tough for me but many people are worse off than I am. I know I was looking for some sort of support, a few words of encouragement, and you (and others) have provided it. I sincerely thank you for your reply, it has helped me snap out of my funk, after all tomorrow is a new day.

13. Sorry about your situation
Seems alot of people these days are in the same boat! Is there any way you could maybe get a couple of fast food jobs until you find something more suited to your talents? I have done this myself in tough times it was hard and I didn't like it but it at least got some money coming in!

14. There is NO greatest country on earth. Even if we were once, we
are no more. The only thing we are "greatest" at is delivering war and misery to others parts of the world.
