I asked them what they would do when the facts change, stick hard on the side of ideology supplied to them or be open to new ideas? I’m quite famous but mostly ignored. Some say I died before I lived. Paul and his Nobel may help revive me. Who am I?

I've done this kind of thing on history mailing lists ... as in lists that go to people that are mostly academics ... and have received some really weird, very wrong answers. DU got this batch faster than some members of H-Net did.
