Another TV victim of coming on after "Heroes"--"My Own Worst Enemy"
NBC axes `Lipstick Jungle,' `My Own Worst Enemy'

Add Christian Slater and Brooke Shields to the list of actors with TV failures on their records.

NBC is pulling the plug on "My Own Worst Enemy" and "Lipstick Jungle," two of its more high-profile young series, according to two network executives who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly about the decision.

The network will not order new episodes of either series when their current orders -- nine in the case of "My Own Worst Enemy" and 13 for "Lipstick Jungle" -- run out, the executives said.

"My Own Worst Enemy" was given a big promotional pitch by NBC. The psychological thriller starred Slater as a man who had two separate identities and lives, and was slowly coming to learn about the situation.

But it was just another new series that viewers shrugged their shoulders at in the lackluster new TV season. The series ranked No. 61 in the Nielsen Media Research season standings, averaging just under 5 million viewers each week.

1. Enemy was just getting started
but Slater needs to stop being such a goddamn mouth breather.

Dude, shut your lips for once in your life. The 'action suspense in moments' look does not suit you.

4. I was never a huge fan
but the night that this was to premiere he was on Inside the Actors Studio

He came off as a Tom Cruise type-totally shallow and completely self absorbed.

Lipton read a review of Heathers to him saying that he was basically doing a Nicholson impression and Slater just hmmm and hawed, after all this time he didn't have anything close to reasonable answer/excuse/anything. Lipton saved him by saying that Brando was THE actor of HIS generation and the inspiration to many...Slater just said "Yeah"

After that show (I am fully aware how presumptive Lipton is) I lost any of the little credibility I had for Slater. I didn't watch the show but my wife said it was nothing new-the "Oh guess what I have a secret spy life" sort of thing. Plus it was probably expensive as hell to make.

2. Everything Christian Slater does is destined to fail
Unless it was Pump Up The Volume.

5. When are they canceling Knight Rider?
I'd rather they just show Reruns of the old series.

6. The show has a good premise and is well produced
...but it looks like they're already starting to run out of ideas.

8. I'm assuming you're talking about enemy
I'll go with what one of the TV critics said, wondering if the premise of the series wouldn't be better served as a two hour movie.

12. I lost all interest with the season two opener
I'd have been much more impressed if they'd killed off Peter and Nathan. I liked both characters, but their deaths in the season one finale would have been a remarkable moment in television instead of yet another "surprise--gotcha!" moment.

13. Shows that follow "Heroes" have met the same fate as shows that follow "Lost"
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 11:01 AM by underpants
that is that they get little attention because all the fans of the lead in show either get online (okay not THAT many people get online) to discuss it, call friends about it, or everyone in the room talks about what they just saw.

ABC moved Lost to 10PM last season and used it as a draw.

I read an article about this when Lost first came on-can't remember the show but it was a good one that went away because the lead-in took all the air out of the room so to speak.

Heroes is used as a draw which has helped "Chuck" (a really good show) immensely.

11. I liked the idea of Enemy, and I thought the premiere was good.
But it hasn't quite measured up since then.

14. I would think that they should have built up to the reveal
instead of doing it on the first show they could have had a season of him dancing around it-some back story-and brushes between the two lives. THEN do the reveal either while tied up loose ends or not. The big reveal/love affair (think Sam and Dianne on "Cheers") tends to kill the show but you can always have full episodes of action action action to string it along.

As I posted earlier this show looked like it was really expensive to make too. Reality shows and game shows cost next to nothing in comparison.
