State 1) squeaking, but functional State 2) Not squeaking, and streaking on the window. Failure to move water effectively State 3) Blade is shifting around, causing metal to contact the window with a hard 'skreeeeeeee skreeeeeee' sound

It coats the windshield with a lubricant to deflect the rain. If you run into heavier rain and need to use the windshield wipers, the Rainex will stop that squeaking for the most part.
