Or something like that.
I could never understand how the Startrek crew could travel to contemporary America and have NO ONE recognize them.

Totally off-the cuff, just on a SF street.
No one recognized them, so the reactions were totally real to Chekhov's questions.

23. And the close ups and interiors of the carrier 'Enterprise'... |
|
were filmed in San Diego's North Island Naval Air Station, using USS Constelation as a stand in... Enterprise was in the Indian Ocean at the time. And I was on a DDG, about a 1/2 mile behind her. (I hated plane guard duty)

It's hilarious, but how could they NOT know? Trek was big back then and Chekov and company were wearing those awesome maroon uniform sans insignia...

19. They took this movie to Russia for a special viewing during Glasnost... |
|
But had to make some minor changes when translating. Seems that the word for Humpback in Russian is Gorbachev. :)
At the end of the movie, when Bones was grumping about bureaucracy (and the likelyhood that their new ship would be a garbage scow), the entire audience rose to their feet laughing, cheering, and clapping. Bureaucracy is universal...

25. When I saw that movie tonight on "Spike"- I thought of an old DU thread... |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 12:21 AM by Dr Fate
...where a number of DUers listed #4 as their favorite Trek flick...
It's so funny that you bring it up- It's my favorite because it combines all the best elements of classic Star Trek- social commentary, adventure, conservation, themes of friendship & unity, comedy, etc...A great movie...
