Poll question: And finally: BEST #1 HIT of the EARLY 1970s? (Part 4)
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 07:32 PM by NightTrain
I had no idea when I started these polls that it would take four of them just to get us up to 1974! Geez....

Anyway, with this installment, we bid the early '70s a fond farewell. And I strongly suspect that the middle and latter parts of the decade will give us considerably fewer worthwhile choices!

Soul Train baby!

I happen to think one of the most beautiful instumentals of all-time was left of your list...Love's Theme, Barry White and Love Unlimited. :)

Gladys has the best song on that list, but there a couple that give it a run for its money.

8. "American Band" - a good song.
I just heard that on a classic rock station, and I got a kick out of the slang used in the lyrics.

I really liked "Angie" back then (in high school) too.

And sorry Nighttrain, but on this 'best of' list there are some songs I hate. I never liked "Time in a Bottle" (singer/songwriter music was never among my favorite types of music). Not big on 'Midnight Train' either. And I have to admit that I don't remember some of those songs, which actually surprises me.

Hey, I must have missed the poll covering 1973. I'll have to look for that one; in 1973, I was hanging out with some black kids and really getting into the soul music of the day. Any soul hit (and some non-hits) from 1973, I was listening to it.

12. Truth be told...

...I never liked "Time in a Bottle," either. But I'm not big on Jim Croce, anyway.

In the interest of variety, I actually did choose some tunes for these polls that are not among my personal favorites.

11. 'Fraid not.

"Superfly" didn't even make it to #1 on the Soul charts, if you can believe that.

13. Curtis Mayfield was severely underappreciated for his time

Classics by him:

Little Child Runnin' Wild
Pusher Man <-----My favorite
Give Me You Love
Superfly
Freddie's Dead

I'm sure there's more, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
