One thing I don't understand - why the *visceral* hatred of the band Rush? Why not just apathy?

One thing I don't understand - why the *visceral* hatred of the band Rush? Why not just apathy?
I've wondered this a long time -

Most bands people either like or don't like, depending on their musical tastes and whatnot.

But Rush - for some reason, a segment of those who do not enjoy Rush's music don't just not enjoy it, they actively hate it, and actively hate the band.

I can see people not liking their music - that's fine. There's music that I don't enjoy, and won't listen to.

What compels people who are otherwise content to merely dislike the music of a band to so actively hate, so vocally and with such deliberation, Rush? What is it about the band that generates such activity?

What compels a person to not stop at dislike, but fling oneself headlong into the bullet train of high speed active hatred?

I can't think of any other band that generates such attitudes.

This has long had me wondering.

1. I can't stand Geddy Lee's voice.
With the exceptions of two songs, I find Rush incredibly difficult to listen to.

2. Extremes prompt extremes.
The more popular something becomes, and the more devoted its fans, then the more vocal and extreme is the opposition.

I always marvel at the extreme hatred of the movie Titanic, for instance. While I don't believe that it was the best picture of the year or that it deserved to make 50 gajillion dollars, it it doesn't seem rational to argue that it is one of the worst movies of all time, as I see many do. It is a well-made, well-acted, cliche'-ridden film that most would not care about had it not been for its extreme popularity, which to its detractors simply magnifies its flaws all out of proportion.

6. There are so many more examples of this...

Creed, Limp Bizkit, Guns N Roses, NKOTB, etc.

I think in most cases it's due to someone in the band having an annoying personality or an annoying voice, or the band's music having excessive amounts of suckage.

8. Because part of me still wants the songs to be actually good
most start with some killer riffs, then devolve into total instrument wank
