Best Bond theme song
"Goldeneye" performed by Tina Turner. The best theme song, and dare I say, the best opening sequence of any James Bond film.

I challenge you to convince me I'm wrong.

10. That was a glorious fusion.
A fabulous John Barry tune given a superb performance/arrangement by Duran Duran with great Bernard Edwards production. For once, Simon LeBon's overwrought style was utterly perfect. And John Taylor's bass guitar work was out of this freaking world. I've been playing bass guitar for 36 years, so I knows whereof I speak.

31. Duran Duran were cool for a while
Their first single, "Planet Earth" (UK only for the definitive 12" 45 - now there was a format!) was a great, slamming progressive/pop dance track. Actually, John Taylor explored a lot of the "View to a Kill" licks on this track before refining and honing them to greatness a couple of years later. He's one of those bass players only other bass players can really appreciate. Perfect instincts for a bass guitarist, always knowing just where to lay back and groove and where to step up, grab a song by the gonads and drop the low frequency sledgehammer with maximum effect.

13. Mine is fairly unconventional: "Tomorrow Never Dies", by Sheryl Crowe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_K-sE8gy4c

This song has everything a Bond theme should have: anger, despair, resignation. And it gets really creepy when you realize that the character it's referring to is dead. Every line of the lyrics becomes uncomfortably literal. And of course, it has Sheryl Crowe. I mean, come ON! :wow::loveya:

37. Diamonds Are Forever is a great Bond theme
Shirley Bassey is about as slinky as it gets singing that tune, and whoever the studio bassist was, he stands shoulder to shoulder with her in making that one of the top Bond themes. I was also always quite partial to Nancy Sinatra's You Only Live Twice.

I've checked out your website a few time, MrScorpio. Your taste is quite remarkable in its breadth and excellence. Rock on!

53. That entire film was just awful and not worthy of the James Bond franchise
Is he supposed to be James Bond or Inspector Gadget? "Go-Go-Gadget!"

Part of the reason Casino Royale had so few gadgetry was the realization that they had gotten carried away in the last few movies. An exploding pen sounds cool but as Mythbusters demonstrated, there's only so much chemical energy in so much mass of well... anything.

As far as the legendary Bond wit (or half of it), according to Daniel Craig, they were very cognizant of not wanting to be seen as "doing Austin Powers."

Still, DAD had a terrific sword fight scene choreographed by the legendary Bob Anderson (Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean, Star Wars, etc.).

Another thing DAD had were http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Another_Day#References_to_other_films">references to every single prior Bond film. It's fun to try to spot them all.

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Bond-James-Various-Artists/dp/B00006I0BO">Best of Bond James Bond

James Bond themes tend to be just as memorable as their movie counterparts and, to a certain extent, just as time sensitive. While many fans can remember the Monty Norman Orchestra's steamy Dr. No theme or Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger," how many of us remember Rita Coolidge's dated "All Time High" from Octopussy or A-Ha's theme from The Living Daylights? Yes, just as we all have our favorite Bonds, we all have our favorite eras of Bond movie music. But surprisingly, whether they're New Wave, soul, or just Euro-pop inspired, most are still worth hearing. There are some real gems on this compilation: On Her Majesty's Secret Service's "We Have All the Time in the World" by Louis Armstrong, the Thunderball theme sung by Tom Jones, and the spunky theme to The Man With the Golden Gun by Lulu. Just overlook those sporadic lean years and you have a pretty stiff soundtrack cocktail here. --Jason Verlinde
