Are there hypoallergenic cats?
I'd like to get a dog but I'm only lazy enough to take care of a cat but I'm allergic to cats. Are there cats that dont cause allergies?

1. I believe most hairless cats would fit the bill.
They're weird looking but as a rule have wonderful temperaments and are very affectionate. :hi:

3. They like to cuddle too - especially in cold houses
So if you want some kitty comfort, turn down the thermostat

2. Ragdoll cats are pretty hypoallergenic
They have a lot of hair, but they don't really shed. And, it feels more wooly than the hair on other breeds.

4. Supposedly, white cats are hypoallergenic
Of course, you are getting this information from some guy on the internet who got it from some guy on the internet. There was supposedly a study to the effect that cat allergy sufferers with white cats had no more trouble than people with no cats at all. However, all I can find in the real world is this, to the effect that darker-furred cats are more allergenic than are lighter-furred ones: http://www.respiratoryreviews.com/jan01/rr_jan01_CNU.html

There are also untold numbers of folks on the internets who would like to sell you hypoallergenic cats; could be a scam, but ask an allergist or a vet for recommendations.

5. Siberian cats are said to be hypoallergenic
The Siberian cat is known as the hypoallergenic cat. People who suffer from cat allergies are usually symptom free with a Siberian. Whether you are slightly sensitive or have a more moderate cat allergy, our kittens do extremely well in homes where there are adults or children who suffer from cat allergies. The hypoallergenic properties of this cat are due to the low levels of FEL-D1 that occur naturally in this breed. FEL-D1 is a protein which is produced in the cat's saliva and applied to the coat during its daily cleaning and grooming. Once dry, it becomes airborne and is the irritant that causes allergic reactions in some people.

These pets allow some of the millions of people with feline or canine allergies to finally enjoy the love and companionship of a household pet without suffering from allergic symptoms.
