Out of the blue she calls and asks...
"Dad, what religion are you?"
I've been expecting this to happen since she is a new mom. I pondered all that with her when she was wee.
"huh?"
"Dad, what religion are you?"
"umm..err.." *stalls* "What religion are you?"
"I don't know. All the times I went to church was with you. Don't we have a religion?"
LoL ... after 1.5 hours of discussion I answered her. It turns out I built a pretty good kid. I have this way of answering deep questions by playing Devil's Advocate to pick apart the brain of the person asking the question. It also helps me figure out why the question was asked anyhow.
Her main concern was what if one church or another is wrong what would happen. I defined "faith" to her.
"Well that's silly Dad. How can you just believe something like that based on things that you read or things people tell you."
"You tell me. Don't you have faith in Government?"
"Hellz no!"
"What do you have in government then?"
"hope," she answers.
"Bingo!" *pause* "That's my religion if I have one.. hope. I hope us humans figure out that it's cool just being good people."
There was much more to the conversation. It covered...god, trees, worms, marriage, earth, aliens, kittens, angels, cannibalism, and more...
I'm a proud Poppy.
Oh! He started all this. All his fault!! :D
Happy Saturday!
