You can't fix stupid.

Let me begin by stating that I don't expect people to inherently understand the workings of computers and/or networking, and email protocols.

That said - some people are just fucking STUPID. WILLFULLY fucking thick, actually. And fucking arrogant and cocky about it as well.

Case in point - wife/husband team that have been bitching at us about their own ignorance when it comes to their email over the course of almost a year. Oh, there have been many causes - we're not sending their email certain places (log files confirm they're not sending to a LEGITIMATE ADDRESS), as one example.

This time they're getting SPAM with spoofed return addresses. The spoofed address is their own - so they are freaking the F out. First they thought they were hacked, I'm told - but after time goes on they are CONVINCED that it's the company's server that has been hacked and they want it FIXED RIGHT FUCKING NOW. (okay - they didn't cuss, but that's their attitude). I tried explaining what was going on, and that it's something you just have to deal with as a result of being online. Not much (if anything) can be done about it - and either just delete the messages or create a filter with the junk mail controls on their email client. I then compiled a list of links on Friday and emailed them to them with multiple discussions from all over the internet to show that it's a GLOBAL problem (edit - not program) and to back up that I know WTF I am talking about and there's not really anything that can be done about it - and that our servers are NOT hacked.

I just checked my work email (IDIOT) and find a response. NOW they want to know WHY is it then that when they reply to one of the messages that says it's from them they get the reply in their OWN inbox. Because if what I was saying were "true" it would either go somewhere else or get bounced back as undeliverable. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: The inference is that I have no f'ing idea what I'm talking about and I can practically see the smirking condescension on their know-it-all faces behind the text.

HELLO ASSHOLES. If you click "reply" and the email address placed in the TO box of the composition window is YOURS you will indeed receive it in your fucking inbox!

Sometimes I think people work REALLY HARD to find things to bitch about - and at fighting any little minute amount of common sense they may otherwise find bubbling to the surface.
