I know you are joking so not saying this about you. More about people in general, including me sometimes. Similiar things (without aliens of coarse) are done every day by people.

You can replace aliens with anything. Since you use the ID4 comparison, in your example, the aliens are bad things that, in your example, you fear.

So your comment could also mean the following things.

If you were in occupied territory in WW2 you would tell where innocent people might be hiding for your own reward and safety.

If you were at a party and someone charged in with a knife, you would hide behind the women and children to save yourself.

If you saw someone injured, or being injured, you would not help them because you would be afraid you might get dirty, hurt, or it would cost you money or time.

If you were at work, and a co-worker was accused for something, or took blame he did not deserve, you would not say anything if it might effect you.

Honestly, I would say, "humm, now ain't that different."

And would walk up to them and ask them how they are doing, and say hello. If they started acting like people from the movie Mars Attacks. I would say they should not be doing that. And if they tried to hurt me, I would laugh at them.

And of coarse, if they killed me, they would make me stronger then they could possible imagine :)
