Last weekend, a bunch of my loser friends tried to peer pressure me
into making myself a Facebook page.
They spent no less than half an hour expounding upon the multitude of reasons why I MUST get a Facebook page, or risk social isolation and the complete atrophy of my personal life.

I told them that they were dumb, and that I do not need a Facebook page, and that the world is not going to implode on itself if I don't have a stupid-ass Facebook page.
I don't care if other people have them, but why do I NEED one? Seriously. Can't I just talk to people that I want to talk to? Does there have to be some sort of digital intermediary in my communication with people THAT I SEE IN PERSON ON A REGULAR BASIS?

I use the internet. I post here. I have a blog. Why do I ALSO need a Facebook page? For the record, I now can't HAVE a Facebook page anyway, even if I decide I want one, because I made such a stink about how I DON'T want one.

15. He's probably going to do it in retaliation
for when I made him a birthday cake last year and photoshopped a cake topper of him wearing a gigantic sweat suit and carrying Preparation H and a bag of prunes. His band was playing at a local bar and I brought the cake there and everyone saw it. It was carrot cake.

2. I have a standard line for this: "I am not a teenager, single or in a band."
I can't see why else I need one. Except for old school people to look me up, and I'd really rather they not.

5. Okay, see!
My friends- not teenagers, but: single, one IS in a band, and I'm pretty sure they're obsessed with having as many "friends" on their network as possible and they probably DO want our old classmates to look them up.

They're all guys, but most of my female friends have Facebook pages too. I don't get it.

;)

And no, I have no Myspace/facebook page.

My wife does though - but that is merely to keep in contact with all her former exchange students.

16. Definitely not. The negative ads would write themselves.
Not to mention that flvegan would be an awfully funny looking first lady. ;)

7. I told one of my friends that I have always,
and will always be, an "instigator" not a follower, so in that sense I can't have a Facebook page. It's too late.

19. Interesting that you posted this today
Yesterday I got an invitation to get a facebook page from my MOTHER! I joined because I know my mother and I will be left out of family stuff because she'll forget I don't have a facebook page ("Oh, you didn't see those pictures? I posted them on facepage!"). I also have a myspace page because I have one friend (who is in a band) who I can only e-mail through myspace. I have absolutely NOTHING on my myspace page and I don't use my real name. Unfortunately I can't do the same with facepage. The whole thing is just a marketing ploy.

Incidentally, I have to personal life anyway so there is nothing to atrophy

20. I don't have one. Don't have any desire for one, frankly.
It would just be one more thing not to keep up with.

24. Facebook is like having three birds in one hand, none in the bush.
Just set it up already - it's easier to navigate than Myspace, and the ads are less irritating. You can set up your Facebook page in five minutes, and then be done with it....

... and you'll never have to go back again...

... unless you want to.
