MST3K Update: "Film Crew" is dead, long live "RiffTrax" and "Cinematic Titanic"
The Mike Nelson group (Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett) that released a handful of "Film Crew" DVDs is HISTORY, according to Kevin Murphy. The new venture is "RiffTrax," a bot-less commentary by Nelson, Murphy & Corbett that can be played in sync with your DVDs using the RiffTrax player:

Meanwhile, JOEL HODGSON has come out of the shadows to reuinite with TRACE BEAULIEU (Crow, Dr. Forrester), J. ELVIS WEINSTEIN (the pre-Kevin Murphy Tom Servo, Dr. Erhardt), FRANK CONNIFF (TV’s Frank), and MARY JO PEHL (Pearl Forrester), to create "Cinematic Titanic."

They offer a few DVDs on their site, and will be releasing a new version of "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians."

That is all.

2. There were McCain jokes in the first three Cinematic Titanics
which were just spot on and hilarious!

Heh heh heh.

Anyway, Mike & Co. makes unwatchable movies like the Phantom Menace and Jackson's Lord of the Rings :hide: watchable again, and Joel and CT is fun just like the old MST3K days.

Love 'em both. I have to admit, though, that I'm usually too lazy to synch up the Rifftrax and listen with 2 sources, so CT movies get viewed by me as soon as I get my DVD, while Rifftrax usually get added to a pile of "to-view" items. I gotta get their new syncher going and get used to watching movies on the computer - something I've still not warmed to. OTOH, CT puts out movies too seldom - once a month at best - because they have to worry about rights and visuals in addition to the writing and recording. Fun, but sometimes a little slow while waiting. Plus Rifftrax are so cheap, it's essentially a couple burritos at Taco Bell ($2-4/recording) while CT discs run $20 if you get a real one and I think about $10-14 if you download, which I'm too lazy to do.

Anyway, it's awesome to have these guys back at work doing what they do best.

David

3. Agreed on all counts, and it's good to have them back in action.
My all-time favorite MST3K personality has got to be Trace. When I purchased the 20th Anniversary MST3K set, it was so cool to see him again on the "bonus" features. Soon after that I discovered CT.

Since the series finale, "Danger: Diabolik" in 1999, I don't think any true fan has "let go" of the MST3K experience. The 20th Anniversary set sheds some light on the expectations of Comedy Central (then the "Comedy Channel") and Sci-Fi Channel regarding the series.

But the premise...wise-cracking friends hanging out and ranking on bad movies...will never die.
