Robert Gates is giving the president-elect his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President-elect exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President-elect sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President-elect looks up and says, "Please send my condolences to the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and to the Brazilian people."
