I really admire people who work with the mentally handicapped
My company hires a lot of developmentally disabled people which is something I like about them - I've worked with a lot of great people who gain a real sense of self-worth from holding a job and earning a paycheck, and who have an appreciation for their job that is likely deeper than those of us who don't have the challenges they do in finding one.

There is a new girl working there right now who is just learning the ropes and she has a sponsor, for lack of a better term, who comes to work with her each day and patiently walks her through her duties. I just really appreciate people who work in fields like that because I don't think I could, to be perfectly honest. While I think it's a great thing, I know I wouldn't have the patience or the temperament and I'm so glad there are people who do.

Just something that was on my mind...

1. I've been in environments like that and it's amazing to see the process.
Usually companies that make a point of hiring those with developmental disabilities are the ones who have figured out that they SAVE money in the long haul because once the employee settles in, they tend to be very loyal to the job and do it well.

My sib works in a company like that and there are some very highly valued (and well paid) employees who started out with job coaches and a longer training period.

3. I work with emotionally disturbed kids. Dunno if that counts.
Surprising, given that I'm such an obnoxious prick, eh?
