Very "trippy" by normal jazz standards, yet strangely accessible.

I love that she plays and sings- looks like a souped up cello - or is it simply the newest form of upright bass?
Nice scatting, too....

21. That's just an electric upright bass. |
|
Traveling with a full size acoustic is a dicey proposition these days.
Used to be, you could buy a seat ticket and take your bass into the cabin of the plane. Now it must be put in the cargo hold with the rest of the luggage.
Even the best road cases can't always protect your instrument.
The bass player who was backing up singer Nancy Wilson opened up his case after a flight from L.A. to Dallas a couple of years ago only to find his 100+ year old axe resembling kindling wood.

22. I love to see women playing an upright |
|
and I haven't seen it too much in the jazz world - of course there could be many women now who do, or moved over from classical cello, what have you. Thanks for telling about this woman, she sounds really interesting. I love how the younger players now are so versatile, and seem to be so skilled at an early age!
On a side note, one of my favorite psychobilly bands, the Horrorpops, features a singer who plays an upright while she sings. It's quite impressive.
