But Kansas was such a great band in their early years. But when I got to high school their music wasn't the same. It got kind of softer and not as lively.

It's really amazing what great older performances are now on Youtube.

This is one of the best songs ever, and you all DU'ers will like it. :)

The vocalist/violinists hair is really nice, too. STill have a soft spot for men with long hair.

1. It has a hint of prog influence, but nothing compared to their next few albums.
I consider this to be more of a Midwestern-style, angular rock tune. Pretty basic and rough around the edges, but shows great glimpses of what Kansas would be at their peak.

2. Song for America
Is for me their best album. Definitely prog rock...Later stuff was heard too often and too easy to make fun of..."Dust in the bins, All we have is dust in the bins..." :D

4. They did the song I want at my funeral:
(Yeah, "Dust in the Wind." and yeah, my ashes should be put in an empty liquor bottle and yeah, I know that's all stereotypical, but really. "Poser" did I live...)

"Carry on My Wayward Son" is also very cool. All songs done while I was a toddler. Sriously.

6. Blame the band Lousiana Larue or maybe even god
Louisiana Larue toured with Kansas as their opening act. During this tour two members (Livgren and Hope) of Kansas "found god" after talking to religious members of LL.

Soon Kerry Livgren went on the 700 club to tell the world he regretted writing Dust in the Wind as it was such a hopeless song. The band splintered and suckage set in.

I saw that tour and it was great. But that was about the end of Kansas. Even bringing in the brilliant Steve Morse of Dixie Dregs fame could not save them.

Speaking of the Dregs
