We can't go through this so soon - a little karma please
In 2001 we lost two cats a month apart - one was from old age (he was 20-22 yrs old), the other went from liver failure at age 8

Just before Christmas-2003, we lost our 15yr old dog - liver, kidneys and pancreas failure.

Meanwhile, three of our cats have been treated for an eye infection, upper respiratory infection and a "twisted kneecap"

As most of you probably know we just got a greyhound and have been dealing with diarhhea problems -- looks like it's under control and he checked out ok at the vet...

well, yesterday we brought our 7 yr old Airdale to the groomer and had her shaved down. Without the fur masking her body - we noticed a large lumpy mass on her front left shoulder/leg area. (she has vet appt tomorrow)

Our worst fear is that it's cancer.

She's eating/drinking/peeing/pooping fine and doesn't seem to be in pain or any changes in her energy level/activity

We are hoping it's nothing but fearing it's cancer...

Some Karma, prayers, good thoughts is greatly appreciated...

1. Good karma going your way.
And the lump may be a lipoma. Very common. Just lumps of fat (kind of like me!!). Let's hope for that!

2. Sometimes when dogs get old they develop fat masses
which are not life-threatening. Hopefully, that's all it is. My dog and I are sending good vibes and lots of good Karma. Hope your doggie will be OK.

4. Thank-you all for your good thoughts
with all the problems we've been running into with our pets... we feel "shell-shocked"

When my partner came home from the groomer yesterday, she was crying and afraid

The airdale (DAX) was a comfort for her after going through string of losses 7 years ago. She lost her dad and two dogs within a 3 month period. Getting Dax as a bouncy happy puppy, helped her through that difficult time.

5. Sending good, healing thoughts.
We had a Lab who got masses and they were always benign but they looked pretty bad. I hope it is nothing.

6. good luck on this radfringe,
you have had more than your share of bad luck lately with furry loved ones.

We are just getting over a week of hell with our husky mixed dog we adopted late last year, she was a stray puppy that had been shot in the hip and grazed on the nose left by the roadside to die, it was questionable if she would be able to keep her leg and almost certain she would walk with a limp if the surgery took. After months of limping she now runs like a racer. Two weeks ago she was attacked by coyotes and bitten on her rump, just hurt pride but hopefully taught her a lesson. Then Early last week she left us several puddles of the worst diarrhea I have ever been exposed to. Next day vomiting and more of the diarrhea, serious dehydration and very lethargic, to the vet $$$$. nothing on xrays but much gas in one area, wood or cloth dont show on xrays so it was touch and go, another night of, will she be alive in the morning. In the middle of the night she was much worse, we had to decide if we should take her to the emergency vet for a barium trace possibly followed by surgery if something was found, we made the decision to wait till morning to see if there was any improvement. she survived and is getting better, man what stress it put on us, nightmares, arguments. We have 3 cats and now this dog, I really dont know how parents do it when their children are sick.

We kept telling ourselves that no matter what happened, we had provided a good home and love for her during her time and we could feel good about that.

I hope your Airdale is OK, I know you will do all you can and try not to let it get to you too much, good luck.

8. All our best

From the Bear family, including Dan the Newfie and Kate the Newfie+somebody small. :)

Large dogs tend to get fat masses like that quite often - (the late) Bill the Newfie got them often, and Dan (at age 3) has had one.

Wishing you good thoughts and hoping that's all it is.
