Doom came to my office today.
The web filter now recognizes DU is in the 'political websites and other' category and now blocks it.
And the admins set it up right, so I can't even set up a route around it. I can only sneak through for a small window of time after noon at lunch.

It was like my computer was half dead.

1. That sucks.
Got to hate those corporate servers. How dare they tell us what we can and can't browse on our "non peak business" times.

You can also google "bypass firewall" for free proxy severs (usually with ads) that let you do the same thing.

5. People would dial in at all crazy times.
It would be nothing but people saying 'Hello? Hello? Am I the first one on the call?' with twenty other people shouting out 'No, were all here'. Then someone else would dial in, while other people dropped off saying 'Bye all'.

It would be nothing but 'Hello? Hello?'s and 'Gotta run, Bye's.

I guess that's sorta like the real lounge. :D

11. I know.
I though about resorting to citrix to bounce around it, but the lag made it suck too hard.

I guess I could get all hax0r and setup a damned tunnel around it, but then, I like my job, and would rather not get in trouble, and I know they've started logging and reviewing all traffic now. It would be hard to explain why I had so much traffic on port, say 666.

"Uh, moving php files?"

And I refuse to browse DU on lynx on a damned telnet session. You ever tried to read a DU thread in Lynx?

Looks like shit. x(

9. My work used to censor bird checklists as "Pornography"
Without bird checklists to keep me going at work, I'm ready to shrivel up and die.

Hey, I'm a biologist... birds of Brazil is work related, right? :D

(PS If you are in Africa, don't surf for porn. Some dudes from work were sent to Africa, and apparently internet access is 50 cents a minute. Getting a $5000 porn charge sent to the company is... awkward. :o )

15. Screw that. I need the administrative password.
I'm an admin on five other networks, including one university, but I have shit for privileges at my teeny company of all of twenty employees.

At least my badge gets me in the server room. I always have that I guess.

17. They competely blocked my internet at work
Edited on Thu Nov-20-08 10:52 PM by RetroLounge
So I brought in my laptop and stole the unsecured wireless from the company next door to surf DU.

Got caught. Now I can't bring my laptop out of its bag.

So I go to lunch at the local coffee house and surf there on their wireless when needed.
