Should we get a new dog?
So we found a dog on Craigslist, and we were going to get it if nobody else replied.

The listing is now gone, so apparently someone else got this dog.

I now feel a dog vacuum in my life.

We already have two dogs, but three somehow feels like the "right" number.

So should we get another dog?

1. Wait till you have ... um ... eight!
Granted, three of those are puppies who will be going to new homes in the coming weeks, but it's still a full house around here. Sometimes I long for the days when I had just one or two, but they're like potato chips - can't have just one!

So, sure, go for it!

2. If you have the time, space, and money to care for it... hell yeah!
Last year I shared a house with two roommates. I had one dog, one roommate had one dog, and the other roommate had two. It was so much fun to watch all four dogs running around together.

6. I currently share my home with 13 dogs.
4 are permanent. I feel no dog vacuum in my life. But, if you have the time and resources, sure, but choose carefully. Make sure the newb is a good fit.

9. If this is an attempt to get her to take pity on you and take a dog or three,
Keep in mind that Xema lives four hours north of me, which is pretty much the textbook definition of the middle of nowhere.

15. Puppies!
:bounce:

My Dad's trying to adopt one right now, suffice it to say it's been more hassle than it really ought to be.

16. They almost refused our application because of the height of our fence
:eyes:

I didn't tell them that the 4-foot wire fence is MUCH sturdier than the 7-foot wooden fence. That thing should be condemned, but we can't afford to get a new one. :P

17. We tore my Dad's old one down by hand, it was so rotten.
The new one's redwood, and that thing is SOLID.

Holy fuck, fencing is expensive though.

18. The pathetic part is that I could probably build a new fence myself
but getting the posts in there... I don't think I'm up to.

11. Only if you have the room, time and can afford it.
Good Luck!!

I can have a dog at my new place BUT I'll have to pay more in security and higher rent. :(

I think we'll be putting that adoption off for a while. :(

12. I'm sure you will have plenty of additional opportunities
to adopt. If you can, that is great.

We have a 1 yr old son and were not looking to get another pet just yet. We already have 2 cats that I would have loved to have found homes for when my son was born... but I didn't really try that hard and it is working out okay.

But... recently.. we have had a dog dropped off on our doorstep so to speak. He's still a puppy but HUGE... and... very loveable. I'm pretty confident we're going to keep him. He kind of adopted us. (Just like my cat did - she just showed up on my door step too). But, we are gonna have to keep him outside and just bring him in when it is cold. We live in a trailier on a back road in a rural area. People have been dropping off their pets a lot recently in this area. I think it is people that can't afford their pets any longer. sad.

13. Or it's people losing their homes to foreclosure.....
that's happening a lot. People losing houses are abandoning their pets too. :(

14. exactly. when he showed up my SO
went to all the neighbors on the road to see if he was their dog. He didn't seem to want to "go back" to anywhere. He just slept on our porch. One neighbor is a County Sherriff. He told us there have been a lot of drop offs recently. another neighbor said she has had 3 dogs dropped off in the past year. There is also another cat "Boots" that we just can't take in - but has been here for a year - we feed him when he is around. He kinda bounces back and forth between us and another animal loving neighbor's house.

It does put a hit on the budget tho - food, shots, flea med, cat litter, etc. Plus, we're gonna have to get the new dog a dog house and get him fixed. I think the dog license is only around $12 tho - I called about that earlier in the week.
