1. Every time I see him in his current state, I feel sadness.
When I see his face I know I'm looking at a seriously, and in many ways, fucked up individual.

3. I agree
I'm reminded of Howard Hughes but Hughes contributed more to society than just bunch of pop songs that will ultimately fade away with time.

7. He used to visit our studio regularly
and yeah, he was a seriously fucked up guy and I did feel sorry for him. Every time I tried to engage him in casual conversation he looked like he was about to wet himself. He was TERRIFIED of people, yet he craved attention like mad. One day he'd come in wearing a disguise, the next he'd come in wearing his traditional Michael Jackson get up (red jacket, black hat and pants, etc)-then he'd walk out into the theme park without bodyguards and get mobbed! And then there were the kids...he was always dragging kids around with him. We met the kid who later sued him and Michael told us that the boy was his cousin. Really? Jackson is hispanic? Don't even get me started on that face either; it was downright stomach turning to look at him.He was every bit as messed up as people imagine, and one could only feel disgust and pity for the man.

6. That is one deeply, deeply fucked up individual.
Damn shame, he was a good looking kid and immensely talented.

This is what child abuse does to people.

17. Yes. But I still think he's immensely talented.
I just don't think he is attractive anymore. But he can write songs like few others, except maybe Elton John. Notice they both had very long, successful careers.

12. Poor Mike
When I was a kid I used to always listen to his music, now it's just sad watching his old Music videos on You tube and seeing him now. He's so screwed up, I wish he was his old self.

14. That's a misconception, both religions are subject to fanatacism.
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 06:20 AM by peruban
I was raised Jehovah's Witness, in fact my mother and step father are Jehovah's Witnesses. My stepfather is an extremely respected elder in his congregation and he and I often have conversations about the faith. I can tell you after studying Islam as part of my religious studies and speaking to Muslims over the years that Islam is a bit more strict on things. For example, Jehovah's Witnesses can drink alcohol (in moderation, of course) while it is expressively forbidden in Islam.

Incidentally, I stopped going to Kingdom Hall (Jehovah's Witness church) sometime around puberty and began to study all sorts of other religions. I eventually settled down and converted to Catholicism when I was about 21.

I can also say that it wasn't Jehovah's Witnesses fault he turned out so creepy. Maybe he'll find some inner peace and sanity through all of this.

15. I disagree.
The things that ordinary Jehovah's Witnesses are conservative about seem to be more potentially harmful than the things ordinary Muslims are conservative about. For example--a Muslim wouldn't allow their child to die before permitting a blood transfusion. They don't eat blood, but they don't consider transfusions to be "eating."

I'm also surprised that you left the Jehovah's Witness community, and are still on speaking terms with your family. The two Ex-Witnesses I've known were both completely shunned (by their own families, even) after leaving the faith. Your former Kingdom Hall must be a very *unusually* liberal congregation indeed.

16. You have your points.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not supposed to consort much with nonbelievers except when proselytizing, but in my case I'm her son, so you can't cut that bond. She accepts me as I am and none of her friends treat me with anything more than traditional Latin courtesy. Those people who shun their families may do so out of resentment that the other family member left the faith but this is an extreme measure and typically occurs when someone has been baptized into the faith and has done something to be censured or even excommunicated. Since I never got baptized I never really left the faith, I just took my basic set of morality and went searching for a truth that I could relate to, which I found in Buddhism. I eventually converted Catholic out of heritage reasons and also the fact that my deceased father's family are all devout Catholics. Since I was raised in another form of Christianity it wasn't much of a leap to understand the Catholic symbolism and morals. I do get offended when my mom refers to my religion as a "false religion", though.

As far as the blood transfusions go, you have to understand that it's a strongly held, scripturally-based stance. I can't quote or cite the text exactly, I could get back to you later with it if you pm me, but it basically says that if blood is spilled (i.e, leaves the body) it is not to be used and allowed to "soak into the ground" - or something like that. So transfusions contradict that notion.

Also, they back up their transfusion stance on many medical reasons, too. More so in the past than now but there are still dangers of contracting disease from transfusions. I had an aunt who had a transfusion (she wasn't Jehovah's Witness) and she ended up with hepatitis of the liver and died from it.

Hope this helps. See you around, I'm off to my 8 am mass.

Mikaeel has US citizenship, so is allowed to come here. But wouldn't stop TSA doing their thing...

Now I am no scholar but it is my understanding that if one muslim loans another money they must not charge interest. If they do then the loan is invalidated.

That was my first thought on reading this.
