Poll question: I've been thinking about relocating........... |
|
I've got myself a career that is easily relocatable (TV repair) and I've been wanting to leave WV for a while so that I might start appreciating it again, and maybe find someplace w/ a bit more going on culture-wise, and yes, warmer. Of course the move is dependent upon the economy coming out of the shitter sometime soon.
I've narrowed possible choices to three cities. I have friends that live in New Orleans and Las Vegas, so the isolation/new city issue wouldn't be so bad. I lived in New Orleans for a year and Austin for three years back in the mid 1990's, so I know those cities.
Whatcha think DU?

Vegas is drag if you live there. Hell, last time I went on tour through there I was depressed.
Austin is a blast. Period.

2. New Orleans: now one of the country's fastest-growing cities!* |

*-if you take the immediate post-K lows as a baseline, that is. But who knows how many TV repair specialists were among the 150,000 or so who fled and have not (yet) returned?
edit: spelling; also, low-income people (considerable overlap with New Orleanians in general) would tend to seek out services such as TV repair rather than just toddle off to Sprawl-Mart and get a shiny new one.

7. I want to live where you live now........... |

but Seattle is WAY too expensive for my budget. Wanna trade? WV is kinda like Seattle.......... in a rural, backward, not-so-progressive kinda way. You'll love it! Trust me!:eyes:

10. An island in a sea of Texas |
|
once you understand you'll encounter Texans daily, you realize that the cool hipness of Austin exacts a small price to live there.
So if you're OK leaving the island and then being faced with with occasional run ins with cops that can't read or write and incredible inbred stupidity the likes of which you could have never imagined, Austin is way cool.

I never want to live in Texas again.
I know nothing about Vegas
But I'm sure that the need for TV repair folks in NOLA should come in handy
