I just watched Across the Universe again tonight...
It's really an interesting movie. The way the songs are integrated into the narrative is almost seamless, like it was the background music come to the front for a moment and then fade back. I admit a couple of the songs were a little heavy handed and the Eddie Izard and Bono clips could have been taken completely out of the movie and it would have been just fine by me...

Let it Be sung at first by a young black child when Detroit is erupting into a full blown race riot and ends with a church choir singing the final at the funeral of that very same boy is perhaps one of the best heart string tug I have had in many years...

Joe Crocker's Come Together is really inspired.

I Want You (She's So Heavy) is the music behind a bizarre GI Joesgue induction into the Army for Max, one of the main characters. In the end, when they are singing She's So Heavy, the raw recruits are slogging through a swamp carrying the Statue of Liberty with them.

Good stuff.

10. OMG, bless you.
I can't express enough gratitude for the star. Now I can post these kinds of threads in the poetry forum.

FTP, or File Transfer Protocol is the best way to send large files over the internet. You can consider it like storage space online. If you don't have access to an FTP server you can rent server space from a web hosting company like Verio. Here's some examples of hosting plans.

http://www.verio.com/unix-hosting-plans/

These hosting plans also allow you to create a website if you have a domain name. I can give you more information on that if you want.

Then you just have to download an FTP client, a program that connects to a remote server and transfers data back and forth.

Oh, and BTW, the copy I have is a dvd quality rip in .avi format you can play on your computer or burn onto a dvd and watch on a regular dvd player.

If you want more information on this just pm me.

I still can't thank you enough for the star, I'm humbled by your generosity. As soon as I get my finances together I'll pay it forward.

14. My dear peruban...
It was my pleasure!

You might want to rethink posting in the Poetry forum, though...

There's not much traffic in there, alas...

I thank you for the info on FTP, but I think I'll stick with getting the DVD...

I'm really spoiled by our widescreen TV!

2. Loved that movie.
Of course I'm partial because I was raised on Beatles music and think that Mccartney and Lennon were the greatest and most influencial composers of the 20th century.

4. Me too...
I play so many of their songs on my guitar. I figure if you can really play about twenty Beatle songs you can just about play anything...

13. Have you heard Fiona Apple's rendition?
She made it her own while staying faithful to the original.

15. I'm sure I have but not really sure.
I have "Across the Universe" in a cassette, no less and on a DVD, I think.

I may have downloaded it off Apple Tunes too but that's stuck on my old hard drive for now. :(

Thanks! I'll look her up!

18. I couldn't understand why it was panned by some critics
I am a very critical viewer and I thought it was spectacular! It really needs to be seen on the big screen to be fully appreciated. I am not big on musicals (they usually seem so contrived), but this was amazing.

20. Bought that DVD a few weeks ago
I Want You was such an intense part of an already intense and intriguing film.

The Strawberry Art was fascinating.

The Frat boys, the partying~ With A Little Help From My Friends

And so much more...so many songs...brings me back to the late '60s through early '70s...

Definitely a great movie!

:hi: WC! :loveya:

22. totally agree
Great movie, i was skeptical at first. The music did work.

I noticed three different sounds tracks to the movie, and I can see why. I really want to see it again.
