Poll question: Have you ever personally met someone as obtuse, crude, obnoxious and tone deaf as palin? |
|
I can think of two examples of such audacity in my entire life.
The most recent example is someone I must pass on the details, due to possible eyes and ears here. The narcissist.
The other is a past co-worker who has abused sick leave and FMLA for going on 5 years now. I say it is crude and obnoxious, etc., because she honestly believes people buy her stories of one crisis after another all these years.
It's ridiculous. And what is so dumb and arrogant about her is that she spends time with other employees to plan parties, get a massage, her hair cut or nails done while she is taking leave time. And still comes back with a straight face and her usual constant emotional pollution.
Well, maybe not quite the same as palin. But just as mind numbingly clueless and stupid as sarah.
Did you see that clip of palin approving of turkeys being slaughtered in the background of her interview? What the fuck was she thinking? Something seriously disturbing about her.
Tell your stories of stupid and obtuse people. :)

Both of whom work for the same organization as I do. Now they are all bummed because Palin lost. So I rub it in every chance I get.

That is pretty fuckin' scary, on several levels.
I was really looking for other close up and personal examples. Have you ever met anyone personally that is so tone deaf and obnoxious?

8. I guess I try to avoid obnoxious people. |
|
Wait, I think my college roommate was one though.
I went to school in deep south Alabama, where the RA's in the dorm wanted me to put down what color I wanted my roommate to be. I seriously did not care.
Anyway my first roommate was like Sarah Palin but probably a little smarter. But completely convinced SHE could not have evolved from apes. Well, duh, SHE didn't. Neither did I. But the human species and ape species have a common ancestor. Anyway, there was a lot of stuff like that. A dyed-in-the-wool right wing loony.

And they are typically neo-christians - evangelicals, "non denominational", pentecostals and their ilk. I had someone argue with me that "evolution is only a theory", to which I responded "Well, so is gravity but I don't see anybody debating that".
I had to explain what a theory is in science, a model to explain natural occurrences that has yet to be disproved. You can't prove a theory, but you can disprove it by suggesting a better model. Such is the case with astronomy, where it was once held that the earth is the center of the solar system. Some time later Kepler, Copernicus, Galileo, Brahe (I don't remember who said it) suggested a heliocentric model of the solar system. That theory fit the natural order of things much better than before.
Well, I don't want to turn this into a creation/evolution thread so I'll stop now.

The first to suggest a heliocentric model was...none of the above.
"The Greek Aristarchus of Samos, in the 3rd century BC, was the first known person to speculate that the Earth revolves around a stationary sun. It was not until 1,800 years later, however, in the 16th century, that the Polish mathematician and astronomer Copernicus presented a fully predictive mathematical model of a heliocentric system, which was later elaborated and expanded by Johannes Kepler."
Yeah,I was surprised too about Aristarchus. Those Greeks were incredibly smart.

This girl at the high school that I got sent to after I was kicked out of my regular high school. She was always talking about what good "friends" we were, but she knew NOTHING about me, because she never listened to anything anyone else said. She just talked constantly about herself. Actually, she just talked constantly about shopping, flirting with boys, and what "hot" new phone she wanted. And her mother had a really good paying job, and was always giving this girl cash, so it's not like she was poor or anything, but she was always trying to mooch off of other people. Mostly, me. And my parents. So for a while I figured that she was just hanging around me to try to get money, but then I realized, no, she was actually lonely, because she drove away all the other people she met by being incredibly shallow, greedy, and insensitive.

Getting made fun of for "running like a retard", having kids be like "Hahahaha....GAY.", and having to deal with obnoxious teenage boys semi-accidentally bumping into me while roughousing with their buddies. Fun fun.

she blamed the wall street collapse on "Barney Franks giving all the stuff to the gays", what stuff is that i asked "You know, all of it". Her own Daughter just graduated from the LSE, she also majored in Poli Sci at BC, she sat her mother down and explained in detail what socialism was but that didn't make a difference.
She also gives my husband career advice, she's never had a job mind you much less a career.

|
I finally put her on my blocked e-mail list over anti-Obama BS she would send around after I'd repeatedly suggested she fact check on Snopes. Her response? "Oh, I'm getting better but I forget once in a while." Yeah, she's so anxious to distribute lies to everyone she knows and has absolutely no antennae for slime from Republicans because she wants to believe all that crap.
I have known her 40 some years and I'm relieved that I finally don't have to communicate with her anymore. I used to go visit around the holidays (when our kids were young I'd take my boys so they could play with their cousins)and after about 2 hours I wanted to scream!
I still e-mail and occasionally talk on the phone to my brother.

She was removed from admin's negotiating team after a few days because she was argumentative and clueless. She'd admit to committing contract violations and when I called her on them she'd respond with "well, I don't do those things".

18. One guy was so bad I banned him from my life and treated him as a non-person |
|
He'd show up with no invitation and simply walk into my house, no matter what was going on. Help himself to food out of the fridge, whatever he wanted. I tried being rude to him but felt guilty for being rude. After a party one night we said "Good night, we're going to bed." We had put up all the food, turned off the stereo and the lights, all the preparations for going to bed and he ignored it all. He stayed for three more hours after we went to bed!
So I decided life was too short to have people like him in mine and banned him from my life and my house. It was a little strange since we had friends in common. Once he hitched a ride over with some friends, but I refused to let him in. So he sat outside in their car for a couple of hours while we had a fun evening.
He eventually enlisted in the Navy and last I heard was in Military Intelligence....

|
I do sometimes wonder what happened to him - his name gets nothing in a Google search. But if he really went into Military Intelligence, that would not be surprising. I've doubted that story, though - he was gay and was just as obnoxious in how he led his "in the closet" life as he was about everything else. I am glad that I have had other gay friends that were much nicer people, otherwise I might have ended up with a negative attitude about GLTBs.

19. I know someone who leaves her in the dust |
|
His name is Joe Kelly Levasseur. He is the former chairman of the Manchester Republican Committee, a former Manchester alderman, and a failed candidate for mayor, state senate, and school board.
Since I was elected alderman last year, he has sent me dozens of demented emails. He has made crude remarks about my wife several times; he accused my best friend of criminal activity (without any basis in fact); he has accused me of using my city computer to wage a political vendetta against him; threatened to disrupt city hall meetings; stalked a woman who works for my friend in an effort to try and smear all of us; and some other stuff that I don't feel like digging out of my files at the moment.
In the past he has called the state Democratic Party chair a "fat liberal pig" and dressed a friend in a pig mask and wig on his cable show to reinforce the point. As an alderman, he had to be removed from the chambers by the police when he went on a screaming tirade against the mayor; accused a respected legislator and environmental activist of "bribery" for securing funding for a historic preservation project.
Lately, he has had an employee of his pizza restaurant run around my neighborhood leaving weird flyers on doorsteps that look as though they were printed at Arkham Asylum Publishing & Graphics.
Palin has nuthin' on "Joe Crazy".

|
Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 01:38 PM by Beaverhausen
She was proud of all the facts she didn't know and simply didn't think she should learn the basics of history, current events or anything else the rest of us just know.
If someone pointed out something she was wrong about she stubbornly defended herself and thought it was not any big deal to be so ignorant.
example: Anyone who put money in the stock market always got that money back, even if the stock they bought went down in price. No one really "loses" money in the stock market.

"Ardelia." Ardelia was so. damn. clueless. about how her blunt, arrogant, obnoxious behavior affected people. Unlike some of the other obnoxious girls I knew, Ardelia was oblivious to the impact of her rudeness. For instance, I once ran into her on the street in the city we lived in right after she'd returned from a year abroad in Japan and I asked how she was. "I'm great, but I've been traveling the world and seeing all the best cities—Boston, Rome—so now, here I am in Oregon again and I'm just like: No. So ugly. Everywhere." As if it wouldn't be at all insulting to the people standing around her, also in Oregon. Clueless.
Palin is still worse, though.
