MAJOR lactic acid build-up in my muscles |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-22-08 02:44 PM by Writer
Today's run was slower and after a 2-day break. I managed to run for 15 minutes, then walked and ran for another 20 or so.
My muscles aren't sore, but they throb.
Would someone come massage them?
Thanks!

1. Sounds more like DOMS. |
|
Delayed onset muscle soreness. Lactic acid tends to disperse quickly, so soreness after 2 days would be DOMS.

3. I looked it up. It makes sense. |

I have been going on longer run/walks... 2.4 miles now. If I eat more protein, will it help?

DOMS is quite the odd phenomena, which I can't really explain without typing a couple pages. It has a lot to do with a body's "comfort level" with specific exertion. Best way to avoid it is to fully warm up before exerting oneself, and to not push oneself to the nth degree past typical exertion. Weightlifters get it pretty often on "go heavy" days, runners tend to get it when they try to run 5 miles instead of their usual 2.
There are a lot of theories out there on DOMS, how it happens and how to avoid it, so be careful what advice you follow.

7. dissolve 1/4 cup each: epsom salts, sea salt and baking soda in a very hot tub of water |
|
soak 20 minutes.
It really helps. This formula was given to my by my massage therapist. Way cheaper than storebought bath salts.
