3. We get this kind of bullshit talk every WEEK at out sales meetings...
Constantly pushing us to "penetrate" our zones, "hit" our numbers,
put the market "to bed"....

One day I told our Regional Manager that I preferred to "envelop" my zones.

He was totally clueless.

Also, the inspirational sports clips they make us watch....to a sales force
that's 70% women.

I think that this story is the funniest thing i have read on DU. ever.

I would have paid serious money for the chance to have seen an intelligent woman co-worker say this to one (or more) of those past meathead bosses who mine who also loved these metaphors in the workplace.

And yeah, I'm thinking of you Sean in Vermont, and you 'Cougar' in California (he always went by that, so I have no recollection of his real name).

I hope that at least a few of your coworkers were in earshot, and had difficulty containing themselves when you said that!

7. Oh, I always have something to say...
My poor local boss used to apologize in advance for his
sports metaphors, but they SERIOUSLY could NOT think of
any other way to "motivate" us!

They also used to "reward" us with sporting events.
There wasn't a woman there that wanted to leave her
family in the evening to drive downtown alone and
make her way to whatever suite that had been rented.
Family members were not invited, and usually the "reward"
occurred during the work week, so we'd have to be up
early the next day.

They finally started adding some spa packages and electronic
goodies to the "reward" mix and people started actually caring
about winning.

12. But see...if all you're worried about
is penetrating the end zone, you're missing most of the fun. It's all about finesse, bay-beeeee.
