I guess Opeth is considered a progressive metal band, but their latest cd sounds more progressive than metal. They've got a couple of songs on there that rock pretty hard and have the trademark, heavy metal, growling/screaming vocals, but the rest of the album is not as heavy as I was expecting. I also like it much more than I expected I would. It was one of those deals where I had heard one song by them but had never heard of the band before. It was an experimental purchase and it turned out to be one of my best music purchases. I'm now going to go to the music store and gleefully buy every album by them. :) What are some of your experimental, music purchases that have turned out good?
