1. It's because if something doesn't move once every 0.10 seconds, Americans get bored.
And you are right - it's total amateurish wanking, and incredibly unimaginative.

I'm sure the college kids who think they're artists fucking love it to death. Probably fits well with their emo music and emp wanker posturing.

2. The mainstream is picking that up? Gosh, I saw that in videos and stuff
like six months ago.

Seriously, being on the internet is like living in the future sometimes.

6. It's one of those things where the first time someone does it, it's like "Oh, that's kinda neat"...
Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 01:56 PM by primate1
And then every bandwagon hopping graphic designer hops on board and does the same thing. That shit's nothing new in the graphic design world, I've noticed.

8. I'm a typography nerd, so I think it would be cool if someone did something original with it
But just typographically interpreting Tarantino movies? Come onnnnnnnnn. Lazy, unimaginative fucks.

9. The current trend in America -- style over substance
Why? It's harder to do. It takes brains. And it usually costs more.

12. Fads are annoying to me, period.
Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 02:26 PM by Jamastiene
I hate bandwagons. I hate the mainstream too most of the time. By the time the masses pick up on anything (and run it into the ground until you are sooo beyond sick of it, you want to pull your hair out...or pull their hair out for therapy), the rest of us internet geeks have moved about 20 steps ahead of them. That's practically lightyears.

The worst part of it is that where I live is rural. Any of the fads popular in mainstream right now won't hit here for 6 years. So, in 6 years, Richmond County will latch onto that like it's the Holy fucking Grail. I'm not looking forward to it. It does not amuse me.

I hate fads. I like what I like and that's that. If I don't like something, I'm not going to start liking it just because the person next to me likes it. I like something or I don't. If only we'd all do that, we'd have a more diverse way of life and evolve much faster. The rest is just a bunch of bandwagon types trying to be like everyone else. That's annoying. Either you like something or you don't. Gah. You know what I mean?

15. I hate that gimmick, and...
Even worse, I hate when a commercial is nothing but words appearing on the screen while someone is reading them. Banks, credit card companies, and investment firms do it a lot, and it forces me to spew vomit at them like a turkey vulture.

17. it's interesting and effective the first time you see it, I suppose
Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 04:56 PM by tigereye
 For some reason it makes me think of the Pillow Book.

Isn't the auditory language itself effective enough, plus the visual effects of the film? I think Kill Bill is plenty powerful without that- that actually sort of minimizes the intensity of the language and the images.

Hmm, my tendency when seeing that is to wonder what kind of neurological processing people are trying to evoke when they make commercials in that style. ;)

My husband says that 20 years ago they will look back and say "that's when they had all the stupid flying type!" ;)

18. I am actually glad you posted that post.
Something that always amazes me is that type of attitude. To use current folk lore, in Highlander, the good ones worked together and did not fight, and only got down when the bad ones were out and about. Although the premise of the movie itself is dark. There are things to learn from everything. And the lines between good and bad are blured by judgement so it is a dicey thing to judge.

"There can only be one", is a trap. And those that look for a fight, spend their days doing just that. It truly amazes me how many people must try and convince others they are somehow better, or they won, or it was them, or it is their legacy that matters. I believe billions of people contribute to the coarse the world takes.

In summation.
This is what I think the meaning of what the Wacko kid said "I threw down my guns, and got shot in the ass by a six year old." Pretty funny when you think of it, and really is a good reason for a drink :-)
