2. We had a spiral sliced ham last week |
|
when we get through the part that is spiral sliced I break off the large chunks and put them in the freezer (what I don't eat as I tear it off the bone) leaving a good bit on the bone.
Then I put the ham bone in a large stock pot and cover with water, add salt and pepper and some basil, bring it to a boil, then let it simmer for and hour or so .
Then I take the bone out, pick off the remaining ham and return that to the pot, and add about 3 Russet potatoes roughly cut about 1 - 1&1/2 inch chunks, and about the same amount of sweet potatoes and usually at least 1 large onion (quartered). After that cooks a while, I add a #10 can of diced tomatoes, a smaller can of whole tomatoes, a small can of tomato sauce (more or less, depending on my mood) The I put in sacks of frozen veggies. Depending on what I have, I usually put in some frozen corn, lima beans, cut green beans and sometimes some english peas, though I left those out )
let it continue to cook, just to a slight boil, until for about 45 minutes or until I can't stand it any longer! mmmm mmmmmmmmmmm!
