4. My dog is like that.
It's the one training mistake I made, and the one I'll never make in the future. I didn't train out "jumping" well enough, and now whenever we have company, he has to have crate time or go outside on his run, because he wants to jump into laps rather than sit calmly and be petted.

However, he has only actually DONE so once or twice, because we are generally extremely vigilant about making sure that he's in his crate before opening the door. And on the couple of occasions where he jumped on someone, we were falling all OVER ourselves to apologize about it.

5. Outside, my dog has FABULOUS manners
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 02:47 PM by dropkickpa
no jumping on strangers, no pulling, etc and so on. In my house, on the other hand, she's a total spaz-ma-tron. She SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy to have guests it's a "ohboyohboyohboyohboypeoplepoeplepeoplepeople"-fest for at least 5 minutes, after which she reverts to being a lap dog.

8. I had a dog owner pissed as hell at me
because his teeny weenie beside-himself dog was all over me in the car and wasn't even CAPABLE of calming down a little bit and I hollered at the dog and tossed him in the back seat. The dog got the message.

Didn't know for MONTHS the owner wanted to toss ME outa the car for that one!

There **are** some things I have no patience for, though, and one thing is animals that have to drive you insane hopping at you like you're Jesus-Come-Home again, or worse yet, LUNGING at your mouth with their slimy snout.

I like dogs just fine, I just don't like dogs In THat Way.

If I'm out hiking and I get jumped on by an out of control dog I don't get mad, I think it's pretty funny, cuz' the dog don't even know me, and the owners are mortified (usually a quarter mile away from the dog, so what could they do?) and if you're out hiking you gotta expect to maybe get dirty one way or another, so I guess it's FAMILIAR dogs with OWNERS that I know that I have the least patience with.
