Is six pies enough for eight people? |
|
We're having eight for Thanksgiving dinner and need enough pumpkn pie to send some home with relatives after dinner. We also need a couple of non-pumpkin pies because, well, just because. I was thinking four pumpkin pies, one chocolate pecan pie, and one apple pie. Does that seem adequate?

Sounds like enough to me...
Each pie will cut into 8 pieces...And you have 6 of them!
I'd say you have plenty!

4. But is it enough for LEFTOVERS? |
|
Leftovers are a very important part of the Thanksgiving equation. Come to think of it, is a 16-pound turkey enough?

7. You'll have 40 pieces of pie left over after each person has a piece. |
|
Technically you could have just made one pie for all 8 people. You're going to have 5 pies left over.

3. I'd say that's enough. We have 10(3 are small kids) and usually do 2 pumpkin |
|
a pecan, a peanutbutter pie and sometimes a frozen pie and always have plenty to send home with the them. We also eat pie until we turn into one. :) This year we're only doing one pumpkin pie along with the other pies.

16. My youngest son makes them. |
|
He always brings them to holiday dinners. He's made different versions the last two years since he got married. This was one he used when he lived here. It's really rich. http://www.jif.com/recipe_pop.asp?recipe=pbdesserts33He's made a couple different recipes that used pudding instead of cream cheese. I'm trying to talk him into trying this one since it's chocolate. :) If he doesn't I'll have to make it one of these days. http://www.nabiscoworld.com/recipes/recipe.aspx?recipe_id=76274&cat=11&subcat=42&catname=Cakes%2fPies%2fCheesecakes&subcatname=Pies%3a+Pudding

5. You may have to freeze most of them |
|
If you're having the rest of the meal, then one pie is more than enough and even it probably won't get all eaten.

9. Depends; are they picky pains in the ass? |
|
My mother has to get a mince pie every year. My father is usually the only one who will touch the damn thing, though.
Of course, my family goes off the deep end at Thanksgiving. Desert alone will probably include the aforementioned mince, two kinds of apple pie (regular and crumbly top), pecan (for my southerner wife), some sort of custard pie, eclairs, Italian cookies from a bakery in Boston, ice cream, and god knows what else

Assuming that everyone has a slice of pumpkin and at least a sliver of one of the other flavors, you'll be sending home plenty of pumpkin pie leftovers. You could probably still send home plenty even if you had just three pumpkin pies. You know these relatives -- gauge it based on how it's gone in previous years. In my family there's always too much pie because our tradition is to eat it for the rest of the week -- it's the only time we have pie.
