"Open Field"

1

A couple of old horses,
who haven't seen each other
in a long while, will nuzzle up
and stand tail to head

in an open field.
Head to tail,
heart to belly,
shoulder to flank.

They'll rest, silence
softly steaming the air.

You came to me
in a dream last night,
for what I'm sure will be
the last time.

You stood behind me,
arms around my arms, holding
my hands and laying
your cheek against my neck.

Two old pieces of a puzzle
the night put together.
