Need to make a veggie platter for Thanksgiving
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 09:57 PM by sniffa
I pre-meal munchie plate with dip(s).

We already have our dips picked out but we don't have the veggies nailed down.

I'm guessing something along the lines of:

carrots (most likely I'll by the big cut carrots and make them into sticks)
cucumbers
green peppers
celery

and possibly some other items. What say you? Grape or cherry tomatoes? radishes? anything?

We're making two other dishes too - some extra dressing and an appetizer (celery sticks stuffed with chicken salad and topped with peas).

ETA: apparently we only have one dip picked. Any ideas for dips would be appreciated here as well. :D

2. We always have broccoli and cauliflower along with the veggies you've mentioned in the list.
I just use dill dip.

4. Sugar snap peas or snow peas
They're AWESOME raw, especially sugar snaps.

I have an awesome veggie dip recipe, but it involves Miracle Whip (not too much!), and I'm afraid the mere suggestion may send bi_baby into seizures. But it's fucking AWESOME dip, so let me know if you're interested.

5. radishes are great
especially if any of the dips are very spicy. I don't know the physics behind it, but a bite of radish cuts down the spiciness.

As has already been mentioned, cauliflower is great. It's a favourite of mine.

6. Olives.
So you can put them on the ends of your fingers and pretend to be some kind of monster, and chase kids around the room.

Not that I do that. Oh no.

Mmm. Olives.

7. I like raw Vidalia onion...but I'm strange.
You take your onion, lop off both ends and you cut it into either 6ths or 8ths then separate the layers. They come out with a slight spoon-scoop shape great for holding dip.

9. Yah, white onions that have been sliced in half and refrigerated
they are sweet as sugar. Or red ones, same thing if they're FRESH.

Carrots.
RED peppers too ~~~~~ and of course some little slices of cheese strewn in.

Green onions, cleaned and cut in half, then the bottom half including the white part slice lengthwise a couple times.

8. Are you looking for dips for the veggies only?
My family always does raw mushrooms, multi colored bell peppers, raw cauliflower, raw broccoli, carrots, celery and the occasional cukes. Usually the dip is spinach. My extended family are creatures of habit and balk at too much experimentin'.

10. Will there be children?
If so, olives on fingers are a particular JOY during the holidays!
