Open mic poetry thread.
"Shadow of the Sun"

Believer, the toil you face
Under stars, under foot
Collapse like rotten trees
Long is the war we wage

To ourselves we commit countless
Broken vows, an endless stream
Of petty thoughts and accidents
We ourselves know the price of light

And hidden in that light, you find
The darkness which consumes us all
That place of shadow where we hide
Where we go but dare not stay

I look up to the sky with all it's stars
And a moon, our rocky orb partner
Signing away a lease for life on the
Basis of assumption. I am not for that.

Ok, so it's a little weak, but it's improv. Let's see what you guys can do.

1. Here's one, very mundane, but true...
My Day

I arrive at the office in the morning,
hang my coat on the door, and get a cup of
coffee, or, if the pot is cold and empty,
make a fresh one to have along with breakfast.
This consists of a donut, or a pastry,
or a cereal. Then I start the dreary
task of making myself look like I'm doing
work. I'll kill a few minutes in the bathroom.
Then it's back to the kitchen for a glass of
water. After a while, I head on down to
take a walk, or just lounge around the lobby.
Then it's back to my desk and looking busy,
faking work until lunch provides its welcome
break. Then back to the agonizing task of
doing practically nothing. Popcorn, cocoa,
candy, various other small diversions
fill the rest of the day, until it's time to
end the farce, and I finally make my exit.

5. Mundane, perhaps, but relatable.
I had days just like that when I worked in a cubicle. Neat how we can pull meaning from insignificance.

3. My dear peruban!
Yours is not weak at all! And mine is not an improvisation...I was in a VERY dark place...

Baling wire

It’s holding my broken heart
Together...

Without it
The pieces will
Fly apart

And I will vanish
Into a bloody cloud

I hate to do it
But my heart needs healing
Nothing else can help me

But...
Baling wire

8. The broken heart.
One of my favorite muses. Sometimes it really does seem like things falling apart, held only by a thin thread of sanity.

My cat

Fuzzy
Orange
Warm armful of purr
You're good company
On a cold night.

"Nocturne"

Priceless, faceless, willingless collapse
Slid, hid, forbidden lapse
Forgotten, forsaken, mistaken contrivement
Involved, resolved, dispondent reserve

The plans were lain as web tendrils -
delicately intersecting across intrapersonal
microcosms of denied thought-woven
character flaws catching yearns and dreams.

The flight path of intent, desire to become
Such are emotions suspended in intellect -
viscous with reason and mechanized logic.

I'm drowning in the world; faces, hands, feet -
Drawing in a shadow of anxiety like a carpet of
straw on dirt floor.

And I lie on my back facing the moon for the last -
time as the ground swallows me whole.

Taking me into its arms of rock and clay;
with stratified smile she rests my head to her bosom

And I sleep.
