Need some famous Lounge vibes and some advice |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-25-08 01:29 AM by RubyDuby in GA
My house was broken into tonight. It is weird that whoever it was didn't take any electronic items except our Wii. This person didn't take any of my jewelry (sapphire earrings and a necklace were out in plain sight and whoever it was went through my jewelry box and didn't take my strand of pearls). The only other things taken besides our Wii was my 2 year old son's piggy bank (sonsabitches!!!) and our safe with our lives in it - banking information, social security information, our passports and the deed to our house. Also taken was files from our filing cabinet - our mortgage statements with loan numbers and credit card statements with the numbers on them.
I know tomorrow that I need to go to the bank and the social security administration, I need to finish calling the credit bureaus and call the state department about our stolen passports. As I watch a lot of tv and especially a lot of crime shows, do you think it would be a good idea to go to the post office and tell them that we are not moving and to not forward our mail to any new address that may be requested (I am thinking that someone has taken our info to steal our identities and will try to open new accounts using our current address but have things forwarded to a new one)?
Basically I am mad and not thinking clearly right now, so I was hoping the good people of the Lounge can help us out. What else do I need to do and/or contact?

That is dreadful!
It does sound as though they are trying to steal your identity. By all means, talk to the Post Office. It can't hurt.
My sincere condolences on this terrible invasion of your life...

5. It's like my husband says, "Some people aren't worth the powder it'd take to blow them up." |

8. oh yes, that was the first thing we did |
|
They spent a good deal of time here. The person left perfect footprints on our kitchen floor (its rained all day and they tracked in mud) and dropped a cigarette butt in our dining room (we don't smoke).

10. sounds like you have a handle on it |
|
of course the appropriate punishment should the thief be caught would be having to spend weeks on the phone, writing letters, searching for documents, and all that crap you will have to wade through to get things straightened out. ugh, my sympathies!

7. call all three credit bureaus and have them put an immediate "hold" on your credit |
|
so no other cards or accounts can be opened with out their contacting you first.

11. I think you're doing all the correct things. |
|
But as I consider just what was done to you and your house...
It almost sounds like an inside job, one done by someone who might have been in your house and who would know where to look for things.
And the sheer boldness of walking in complete with mud on his boots! Or was that stupidity? I'm sure the cops took pictures of that.
Good luck...
