I am taking Chantix, and I'm not having any nicotine withdrawls. Instead I just miss smoking. I'll be doing something and suddenly think, I could really go for a cigarette. But for now, I am not smoking. x(

It's going to be tough here in the early going, even with a little pharmaceutical help. But hang in there. The worst is over after two weeks. After 2 months you'll wonder what in the hell possessed you to smoke in the first place.

Then I got a new boss at work and he was the biggest chain smoker I've ever seen. This guy would sit outside on the patio all day smoking and would just work out there. When I would go out there to talk to him he had a whole coffee cup filled with ciggarette butts after like 4 hours. He sucked down starbucks like they were crack to. So I wanted to get on his good side so everytime he would offer me a smoke I would smoke it! I had to eventually transfer to another location so I could quit smoking again.

The thought that helped me the most in the early going was the amount of money I was saving by quitting smoking. We're talking over $200 a month. I could buy a new car for that.
Then one day I went to the hospital to see my step-father who was having gall bladder trouble. His roommate was in the late stages of emphysema. I sat there as long as I could. I don't know how my step-father was taking it. Between the coughing and the hacking and the phlegm withdrawal, I couldn't handle being in the same room as the guy. That pretty much sealed the deal for me. I'm working on month number 8 now as a non-smoker. I smoked for 19 years. Wellbutrin helped me a great deal. It really knocks down the cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

One more off the smoking bandwagon. You will feel better for it too in the long run. Plus eventually no cigarette bill and no pharmaceutical bill.
I lost my granddad to cigarettes and nearly my dad too.
I fear I'm going to lose my father and mother in law. father-in-law doesn't want to quit, mother-in-law wants to but says she can't if her other half isn't quitting, cos she tried before and it didn't work for her.
So if you want to have a smoke, post here instead.

I've never smoked, so I don't know what you're going through. But as a medical professional, I can tell you, you're doing a very good thing for yourself. There is absolutely nothing about giving in to those cravings that would be better than resisting them. So keep up the good work. Everyone here is pulling for you... :thumbsup:

Whenever you miss your cigarettes, just puff on the straw until the pain goes away.
You may be holding that straw for a couple of weeks, but then you'll be on your own. Works like a charm.

the cravings are cut down by the chantix, but the habit of lighting up when I leave work or during a long drive are what bother me the most.

I went on a special vacation and gave up cigs and diet soda May 1, 2006. I have not smoked since and can't believe I ever started! It is a major challenge but one that can be overcome. good luck to ya-

I failed two weeks into my quit but because I was on that drug none of the nicoteen from that whole pack of cigarettes made it to the addictive part of my brain...and my quit continued the same as before. It really worked. Just have something to do for those moments of craves. Try the quitnet.org. You can sign up your quit there and have lots of people to talk to about your quit. They'll help you along.
Good luck with your quit. Keep it up and you'll feel so proud. I do and I'm quit 6 months.

They really, really helped me. I kept them in the car, by the phone, anywhere I would usually want to smoke. They absolutely took the edge off. Don't know why. It's been 15 years for me. Every once in a while I dream that I relapsed and I'm always so relieved when I wake up and realize it was just a dream. Good luck!!!!

I've been following a harm reduction model for 6 years and went from 1 1/2 packs a day down to less that 5 smokes a day, for the past 4 years.
My husband, when he quit, went cold turkey and relied on having a frozen popsicle whenever he got the urge.
The psychological urge to "need one" will subside in a few weeks. Each time I got that thought, I'd realize that there were other things I could be doing for those 5 minutes, and after I finished that chore, it was an affirmation that I didn't need to smoke in the first place.
