4. The one when Hawkeye
kept the mortally wounded soldier alive until December 26th so his family would not have to live with his dying on Christmas Day.

War Sucks. Thanks Hawkeye!!

5. I know Tuttle, I've worked with Tuttle.
Edited on Tue Nov-25-08 03:45 PM by peruban
He was here a minute ago, you must have just missed him.

Also, what was the title of the episode shot in black and white interviewing the cast? I believe someone said it was so cold at times that the surgeons would warm their hands by holding them over an open wound. Powerful stuff, I heard the writers heard about it as a true story and included it in the episode.

6. There's a little Captain Tuttle in all of us.
We can all be comforted by the thought that he's not really gone, there's a little Tuttle left in all of us. In fact you might say that all of us together made up Tuttle.

7. Abyssinia kills me, but it doesn't work as a stand-alone episode. If you
aren't invested in the show and its characters it has far less meaning.

But since I've seen them all a zillion times I picked that one for myself simply because it always makes me cry when Radar makes the announcement in the O.R.

8. That was a powerful moment.
I heard the cast didn't know about the ending to that episode until it was filmed, the sound of scalpels dropping was accidental but worked unbelievably well for the scene.

10. My all-time favorite is one of the less-celebrated episodes...

...Season 6, Episode 7, "In Love And War"...

"Hawkeye falls in love with Kyong Soon, a Korean woman who is caring for her sick mother and orphaned children. But all hope is lost as Kyong takes her possessions and the children to the south after her mother has died. Meanwhile, a new nurse that arrived from Tokyo talks about a man she was involved with, and Margaret finds out it was her husband."

This one really rode the old emotional roller coaster.

11. Two Colonel Flagg episodes:
one of them had this gem:

“You think you're real smart. But you're not smart; you're dumb. Very dumb. But you've met your match in me.”

the other episode had this gem:

"I don't know what game you're playing but I have enough pictures of your file to have you executed for the rest of your life."

12. I prefer the funny ones.
Anything with Colonel Flagg.

(I'm CID. I just tell people I'm CIA so they'll think I'm CIC.)

13. "Ah, Bach..."
One of the many ones where Hawkeye tries to teach Radar how to be smooth with women, and he does a nice little rap about how to fake sophistication.

Some great lines... one of my favorites, from the episode where McArthur is going to visit (a good one overall), where Radar is walking to the VIP tent carrying two table lamps and encounters Hawkeye and Trapper... Hawkeye: "Behold, a diminutive Diogenes..." Trapper: "Looking for TWO honest men, Radar?"

18. When Trapper went home,
and Hawkeye sped out, trying to catch up with him, but failed. Instead, he met B.J., got him drunk, brought him back to camp, where B.J., wasted, practically falls into Frank Burns' lap with the infamous phrase, "What say you, Ferret Face?"

19. During first run, was there any way to find out the shows' titles?
I was an absolute nut for the series, and I can tell you that my local TV Guide equivalent didn't list the titles, not even when the show was still running on CBS.

I don't know about the "best" episode, but each of my two favorites features Mako in a different role:

In the first, he was a Chinese doctor coordinating the swap of American prisoners for Chinese, and it featured Hawkeye, BJ, Frank, and Radar driving an ambulance-bus deep behind enemy lines. A great episode.

The other had Mako as an anonymous North Korean soldier who forced Hawkeye to treat his fallen comrade, with the clear implication that if the wounded man died, so would Hawkeye.
