Yes. Peter Gabriel has gone over to the dark side.
A Lincoln-Mercury car ad, using his song "Big Time." :argh:

4. TV ad for Lincoln-Mercury |
|
Most of their cars are the bigger gas hogs, (Freepermobiles,) :-) and on a TV ad for Lincoln-Mercury they are bragging about some kind of big sale, so they used the song by Gabriel, "Big Time."
What next? Ace Hardware using "Sledge Hammer?"
A lawn mower using "Solsbury Hill?"
A rug cleaner using "Steam?"

3. At least Lincoln-Mercury is paying him to use his work... |

The music business has seen a 30% drop in record sales in the last three years. Profits from selling records is one way Peter Gabriel pays the bills, and illegal downloading has cut into his business the same way it's affected the rest of us who make our living making records.
I have to admit I find it a bit ironic to hear Led Zepplin's "Rock N Roll" being used to advertise for Cadillac, though.

People losing their jobs and not being able to pay for the albums is a pretty big chunk of that 30% you mentioned... I mean, over the last 3 years, 3 million (likely more) have lost their jobs. Those who got new ones don't even come close to comparing financially.
Not to forget the asinine price of most albums sold. $17-$20 for one disc that has one good song, maybe two?
While I concur that illegal downloading is a part of the problem, the RIAA wants to make it look like that is the only problem. Sorry, the situation is not as black'n'white as that. My mentality is somewhat better than *'s and *'s supporters. It's not simply as simple as "black'n'white".
Please don't make illegal downloading the sole issue.
It's like saying Nader was the sole cause of Election 2000, when we all know there were 5 or 6 separate defineable causes to that debacle, of which Nader was one.
As for Clapton "selling out", let him. Who isn't anymore? With peak oil on our doorstep, it doesn't matter in the end anyway.

5. If he even owns the rights to his own songs |
|
Either way, I don't think it makes him a sell-out. Poor old dude ain't got much else to sell these days.

9. No, he's not. But he did break up with the scrumptious Rosanna Arquette |
|
Which makes him dick-dead, if nothing else.
