I Just Got Into A Heated Argument With A Guy At McDonalds -- Please Tell Me If I Was Wrong
I'm on line at McDonalds. I place my order, my food comes. Then this guy comes over and asks the counterperson: "Sorry to be a jerk, but I ordered this sundae and I'm still hungry, I was wondering if I could exchange it for a cheeseburger."

The counterperson is like, "no problem," and he takes the sundae and gives the guy the cheeseburger. Then the guy says "are you going to throw out the sundae?"

The counterperson says yes, and then the guy says "well, if your just going to throw it out, could I keep the sundae?"

The counterperson says, "I don't think so, but let me ask my manager."

The manager comes over the the guy explains to him what he wants, the manager says no, and tosses the sundae in the garbage.

The guy starts to get upset.

"If you're just going to throw it out anyway, why couldn't I have just had it?" he says.

To which I jumped in: "So, essentially you want a free cheeseburger, because you want to do an imaginary exchange where you hand the guy the sundae and he hands you the cheeseburger and then hands you back the sundae."

He says back to me: "But they're going to throw it out anyway, why not just give it to me."

"Why not just pay for the cheeseburger?" I reply.

"Because I could give the sundae to some homeless person on the street," he says back.

"Do you see any homeless people around here?" I said. There weren't any, this is a suburban neighborhood.

"I could though, and it doesn't cost them anything to give me the sundae back because they're just going to throw it out." he says.

"But it is going to cost them for the cheeseburger, because you're not paying for it," I said.

"what do you care?" he says.

"I don't," I said. "I just think you're trying to get free food."

"So you think I'm greedy?" he asked.

"Yeah, basically. You don't want to pay for a $1 cheeseburger."

"Well, you're an asshole," he replied.

"Yeah, but at least I'm not an idiot who orders ice cream in 30-degree weather," I said, and at that point I grabbed my food and left. I don't know why I got into this argument, but it just made me upset that some people think they're so smart that they can just scam food.

Was I wrong for getting in this argument?

4. I'm glad you called him out on it - stupid people are killing this country.
While I hate the amount of food that fast food places waste, the manager was right to toss the sundae just to teach the asshole leach a lesson on not being an asshole.

I doubt that he's learned anything, but one can always hope.

Is That A Tumor In Your Pocket…
Pet Store | Canada

(A customer is looking in our pet store’s front window at our display of hamsters, rats and mice.)

Customer: “I want to make a complaint.”

Me: “Sure, would you like me to get the store manager?”

Customer: “Yes, right this minute.”

(I get the manager.)

Manager: “Yes, ma’am, what seems to be the problem?”

Customer: “I can’t believe you would actually have sick rats on display in the front window! I am going to call the humane society and have this store shut down! I am sickened that would actually have poor rats that have CANCER in the storefront window!”

Manager: “… cancer?”

Customer: ” YES! Just look at the size of those TUMORS on the poor backsides of all those rats in that cage!”

Manager: “Um, ma’am… those are their testicles. They are full grown male rats.”

Customer: *blushes* “… oh. Sorry.”

10. no - I probably would have too
Sometimes I just can't keep my mouth shut. And I especially hate it when some jerk comes up with what he thinks is a cute little scam that he tries to intimidate the help into giving in to him. Often the help at McD's is high school kids. If not they have all been trained not to make a scene. No doubt this was at a busy time where this idiot thinks he can get a lot of sympathy.
I have stepped in at grocery and other retail checkouts when it appears someone is trying to pull a fast one. I have had daughters who were checkers and sales help and this kind of crap just really pisses me off.
And in cases where I have been given too much change, I always try to make it right. Employees can easily lose a job over a small error like that.

20. The dude was a scamming douchebag. For some people, ripping off
fast food places for a dollar or two is apparently a life-long desire - I don't really know why.

My high school job was selling fast food at Disneyland, and people would come up with the most inane stories to scam us for a dollar. Like they could only be happy in the magic kingdom if they'd managed to screw mickey out of some pocket change.

"No, but I stood on line at the McD's."

23. You were right
It sounds like he was trying to pull a fast one.

I think the only situation where it would be ok to let him keep the sundae would be if there had been some sort of screwup of his order and for whatever reason they had given him a sundae instead of a cheeseburger. In that sort of situation, I think it's ok to keep the original item as a sort of recompense.

25. I witnessed a similar exchange at a wendy's once
However, the difference was that they guy's order was messed up, and he had the receipt to prove it. They wanted to take his one sandwich back and throw it away and give him the right one. He argued that he could just go give it to a hungry person or a hitchhiker (this was at a truck stop in the southwest - no shortage of people who would have loved that free burger), but they wouldn't budge. I can't remember what they guy ended up doing.

and he didn't. He is obviously smarter than you and that pisses you off.

Hah, seriesly, though, it's pretty funny he would make such a big deal out of scamming a free meal out of McDonald's, even **AFTER** he succeeded in getting his free meal.

Give the guy the benefit of the doubt -- maybe he really was hungry and didn't have money for a hamburger . . . .

Either that or it was Just His Lucky Day ~~~~~~~~!

When My Lucky Day comes, it's gonna be the Lottery, not a McDonald's Hamburger!

If there was something wrong with it, it'd be fine to exchange it. If he received the sundae when he didn't order it, it'd be ok to give him the cheeseburger and the sundae as well.

But this guy was a bullshit artist. He was looking for a handout.

It seems like in every facet of life these days there are dishonest people who don't consider anyone but themselves in the bullshit they try to pull and I'm getting sick of it.

People go through life like they are totally insulated from those around them with absolutely no clue that the crap they pull does have an impact.

It's good for someone like that to see that it's not just the manager who saw through him but others around him, as well.

More people need to speak up when they see bullshit like this on any scale because in the end we all pay for it.
