Was anyone else here a Patrol Boy in grade school?
The below picture is not me, but is representative of what a Patrol Boy looked like. We had bright orange belts, instead of white ones.

I made lieutenant, but I didn't make captain.

Gary made captain. He used to go around and write you up if your belt was not on properly, or if you were late to your post. Fucker.

2. He wrote me up because my belt was too loose...
So I said "fuck you".

I had to stay after school for that. Seriously.

4. Sorry to hear about that.
just learn to laugh about it, and you will eventually not think about him everytime you put your belt on in the morning :)

3. I was!
And got busted for throwing snow balls at buses as they passed by. Hey, at least we waited until there were no kids around! :)

5. Haha!
We used to get busted for everything! Then we would have to stay after school.

As a matter of routine, we used to whip each other with our belts, which was particularly dangerous because they had rather heavy metal badges on them.

I remember one kid got hurt pretty bad because he got hit in the face.

We were bad Patrol Boys.

6. I was on Patrol...
Of course since us girls were allowed to be on it..the called it Patrol Guards or something like that.
And I did have a bright orange belt with a large silver badge on it. The only exciting thing I remember about it was going to a end of year special fair....

7. Do you remember that there was a special way...
that you had to fold up your belt when you were off duty? It was a real art...you made a tight rectangular knot and the badge would end up on top. Did you have to do that?

8. Yeah, now that you mention it, I did!
And I think that was the hardest thing for me..getting that knot correct!

9. Now that I'm thinking about it, we used to even throw...
the knotted up belts at each other! We were either using them as a whip, or throwing them! They made good weapons when they were rolled up, because the badge made them heavy.

10. I was a "crossing guard"
I had white belt and I had to help the "little kids"cross the street in the morning, at lunch and after school. I'd forgotten about that. :)

12. Crossing guard for a few weeks
It was a dangerous job not so far as traffic but the junior high kids down the street used to kick our asses every other day.

13. Hall monitor....
They picked me to help get the students from the buses into the
classrooms in the Special Education wing of the Elementary School.

I, also, was the penny and ticket girl at lunch time.

So guess what two jobs I worked when I was older:
Lunch lady and then after graduating from University I taught in Special Education...:)

14. I wasn't allowed because I was a girl
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 10:52 AM by MountainLaurel
That was, in feminist terms, my "click" moment, at the ripe old age of 9.

What's still galls me about the whole thing is that I ended up doing the work (which involved getting the younger kids across the highway) anyway because the actual patrol boy was such a goof-off.
