Pies? I'm supposed to bring pies?!!!
:wtf:

my mother has gone round the twist, the last time I made the pies for thanksgiving, I forgot to put the sugar in the pumpkin pie and burned the hell out of the apple. Two nights ago I messed up Rice Krispie treats and now I am supposed to bring 4 pies!!!

Would it be unethical if I bought frozen pies, baked them and then transferred them to my pie pans? OMG, pies!!!!!! :grr:

6. Pumpkin cheesecakes?!
I'll be right over!

How about if I trade you a homemade apple pie and a homemade pumpkin pie for the cheesecakes? Deal?

2. lol
Just do what my mom used to do,, make a crust that collapses when you cut into it and therefore turns the pie into a mound of mush...
(well okay that was only one year but after that others started bringing pie...)

3. Well, get busy and make pies
It's not rocket science, you know. You can do it if you pay attention.

8. I didn't realize you were supposed to melt the butter BEFORE
you add the marshmallows and found out that if you do them both at the same time you end up with hickory flavored rice krispie treats, and yeah they taste as bad as it sounds! The worst part is, I can cook, I am actually a great cook, but baking is beyond me

11. Hah... that's wild.
I never knew it would change the flavor. Weird.

If you're a great cook but terrible at baking, maybe offer to do something else, and let someone who likes baking handle the pies? I hate to think of you stressing out over pies. If no one will trade, then I suggest you just buy them... no good stressing out over pie.

I suck at meringue, so I bought a frozen lemon meringue pie. I hope it's good.

5. A great reason to go to Costco
Their Pumpkin Pie is huge and Amazing and only 5.99. They also usually have a terrific Caramel Apple which would be great for Thanksgiving. My Costco usually has Key Lime and large fruit tarts which would be a terrific substitute.

7. Get frozen but don't bother trying to pass them off as your own

Hold your head high and declare that your baking skills suck! Nobody needs to be great at everything.

Or you could pay me and I'll send over some homemade ones. I only know how to make pie crust well because the nun who taught home ec at my Catholic high school had a kickass recipe.

12. I don't even fake it
with the transfer any more. I figure when folks ask me to bring a dessert, they want one they can enjoy so they'll take what I bring and like it  Mmmmm

14. Sounds like you've found a loophole to me.
You are only supposed to bring pies, right?

If no one said anything about "homemade" pies...take a decent store bought pie.

Save the receipt and if anyone asks you for the recipe for one of the pies, hand them the receipt and grin.

18. Get the pudding/pie filling from the grocery and a graham cracker pre made crust.
Assemble. they make the cheesecake filling too. Quick. Super Easy and you can still say you "made" the pies. :hi:

Pumpkin Pie is incredibly easy. Follow the directions on the Libby's Canned Pumpkin. It practically makes itself.

21. Is there a Marie Callender's anywhere nearby?
Their pies are probably already spoken for, and if so, I say go with Mrs. Smith's.
